Redmi Note 4 in depth review

Redmi Note 4

Last year Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 3 in India. Xiaomi launched this smartphone in budget price segment. This phone got a huge success in the country and become the best seller in this budget segment. And following this line up Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 4 last week in India. Xiaomi launched this device in three versions first one having 32 GB of internal storage and 2 GB RAM, second one having 32 GB of internal storage and 3 GB of RAM and the third one having 64 GB of internal storage and 4 GB of RAM. The 2 GB RAM model is priced at 10000 INR, 3 GB RAM model is priced at 11000 INR and the 4 GB RAM model is priced at 13000 INR. So let's see whether this phone is good buy at this price.

1. Size : 5.5 inch
2. Display : Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
3. Processor : Octa core processor having Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset based on 14 nm architecture
4. GPU : Adreno 506
5. Weight : 165 gm
6. Camera :
Primary : 13 MP with f/2.0 aperture, Phase detection autofocus, dual LED (dual tone) flash
    Video : 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps
    Secondary : 5 MP with f/2.0 aperture
7. Protection : not specified
8. Sensors : Fingerprint, accelerometer, compass, gyro, proximity
9. SIM : Dual SIM hybrid slot
10. USB : micro USB v2.0
11. 3.5 mm jack : Yes
12. Battery : 4100 mah non-removable battery

This phone looks very similar to Redmi Note 3 but there are some minute differences. One can easily mistake this device with Redmi Note 3. Redmi Note 4 has very good build quality. It has a metal body. The phone looks very premium. The in hand feel of the phone is also really good, it feels really solid in hand.
On right side it has power button and volume rockers. On left it has SIM tray which accepts either two SIM cards or one SIM card and other memory card. On bottom it has speaker, microphone and USB port. On Top it has 3.5 mm jack,IR blaster and secondary noise cancellation. At back it has fingerprint sensor and primary camera. Also this device has curved edges at back for better handling.

Redmi Note 4 has a full HD display which has 1080p of resolution. The display is IPS LCD type. The display is really good. Colors come really good on the device. The viewing angles are also good of this display. The brightness levels are also good. The outdoor visibility of the phone is also good. Overall Redmi Note 4 is equipped with a really good display. But the autobrightness sensor of this device is not good, it is not properly calibrated. So most of the time we actually have to adjust the brightness manually.

Redmi Note 4 is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 chipset which is based on Octa core processor. This chipset is build on 14nm architecture which is very battery efficient. The processing of the device is really good. There are no issues in day to day tasks of the device. It performs all the tasks without any lags. This device is equipped with Adreno 506 GPU. So this device is able to play all the heavy games such as Asphalt 8, Nova 3, Modern Combat 5 and many more without any frame drops and lags. Also there are no heating issues while playing these games. This phone is as fast as Redmi Note 3. But if you are thinking that performance has improved from Redmi Note 3 to Redmi Note 4, it is not the case.
The RAM management of this device is also good. It holds all the apps in memory. We can do multitasking with this device without any lags and jump between apps. So there is no complaint in this section of the device.

Primary : Redmi Note 4 has a 13 MP rear camera. It has f/2.0 aperture with phase detection autofocus and Dual tone dual LED flash. The shutter speed of the camera is fast. The camera captures decent pics in good lightening conditions. There is lot of detail in the pictures. The color accuracy is also good of this camera. The dynamic range isn't great. It also has that depth of feel effect for macro shots. But sometimes camera get out of focus when the object is very close to the camera. The camera app is also good. It has HDR and panorama mode for better photos. In artificial and low lightening conditions the pics are not great. There is noise in the pictures. But the performance of rear camera has improved from Redmi Note 3 to Redmi Note 4. The video quality of the rear camera is also not good as it lacks that Optical Image Stabilization. Also the audio pickup via phone's mic is not good, it records very tinny sounds.
Secondary : Redmi Note 4 has a 5 MP secondary camera. The camera has an aperture of f/2.0. It again captures decent shots in well lightening condition. In artificial lightening conditions the selfies are decent. But when we move to extremely low lightening conditions there is lot of noise in the pictures. The video quality via secondary camera is not good.

The battery life is one of the strongest point of this device. This device is having Snapdragon 625 which is build on 14nm architecture which reduce the power consumption of the device. Also the device is having 4100 mah battery. Both these factors result in very good battery performance of Redmi Note 4. Redmi Note 4 can easily last for 2 full days for a moderate user. It can easily give screen on time of 7 to 8 hours. So battery life of this device is nothing short of incredible. Redmi Note 4 don't support fast charging. So it takes about 2:30 hours to fully charge the device.

Redmi Note 4 has just single speaker at the bottom. The sound output of this device is not great. It just gets the job done. We actually have to keep the volumes at full to listen the sound clearly. The sound output via headphone jack is good, there are no issues with that.
Cellular call quality

Cellular call quality of Redmi Note 4 is good. It has no issues while receiving and making calls. The sound is clearly audible. Also the network reception of the phone is good. It also have that VOLTE support so we can use Reliance Jio with it without any issues.
User interface

Redmi Note 4 runs on MIUI 8 which is based on Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow. MIUI is very heavy skin of android. But the user interface is really good. There is no lag in day to day tasks. All things run very smooth. The device is really snappy. Also device doesn't come with lot of bloatware. It has lot of  themes in Theme center. We can also download Google launcher and use it on the device instead of MIUI Launcher.
Pros and Cons

Great build quality
Good display
Good processing
Insane battery life
Heavy User interface
Average Camera performance
Average sound output
No fast charging
Final verdict

This device comes in three RAM options 2GB, 3GB and 4GB. As this device has heavy user interface so at least we should go for 3 GB model for smooth performance. This device has best battery life in this price segment. It has Snapdragon 625 chipset inside it, all other device having this chipset are priced much higher than this so this is also a good thing. There is not any point of this phone of not buying this at this price. But if you own a Redmi Note 3 it will not be a god upgrade because there is not much change in the device. You should wait for next phone of this series. Otherwise this phone will be the best buy in this price segment as it's previous sibling that is Redmi Note 3.

Redmi Note 4

Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 4 in china last year. At that time it didn't said anything about the global availability of the device. In China Xiaomi launched Redmi  Note 4 with a mediatek processor. In India as all of us know Xiaomi can launch it's devices only with snapdragon processor due to some legal issues. So it takes some time for Xiaomi to launch it's devices in India. As all of us know that Redmi Note 3 got a huge success in India due to it's overall performance, so Xiaomi can't delay the launch of Redmi Note 4 in India. This week company has launched Redmi Note 4 in India with a snapdragon processor. This time Xiaomi choose Snapdragon 625 for it's Redmi Note 4 which is based on 14 nm architecture. Xiaomi actually launched three variants of Redmi Note 4 in India with same processor but with different combinations of RAM's and ROM's.

The three variants of Redmi note 4 are:-
1. 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage priced at 10000 INR
2. 3 GB RAM and  32 GB internal storage priced at 11000 INR
3. 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage priced at 13000 INR

This device will be sold through flash sale via flipkart. First flash sale will begin on 23rd Jan at 12 noon. So without wasting furthur time now take a look at some of the specifications of the device.

1. Size : 5.5 inch
2. Display : Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
3. Processor : Octa core processor having Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset based on 14 nm architecture
4. GPU : Adreno 506
5. Weight : 165 gm
6. Camera :
Primary : 13 MP with f/2.0 aperture, Phase detection autofocus, dual LED (dual tone) flash
    Video : 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps
    Secondary : 5 MP with f/2.0 aperture
7. Protection : not specified
8. Sensors : Fingerprint, accelerometer, compass, gyro, proximity
9. SIM : Dual SIM hybrid slot
10. USB : micro USB v2.0
11. 3.5 mm jack : Yes
12. Battery : 4100 mah non-removable battery

Redmi Note 4 looks very similar to Redmi Note 3 but there are some changes. Let's discuss these changes in detail.

1. Processor : Redmi Note 4 uses the Snapdragon 625 processor while Redmi Note 3 uses the Snapdragon 650 processor. Snapdragon 650 is a hexa core processor with two cortex A-72 cores and four A-53 cores while Snapdragon 625 is an octa core processor with eight cortex A-53 cores. This means that Snapdragon 650 is a faster processor than Snapdragon 625 due to two more powerful Cortex A-72 cores. But in day to day usage we won't notice any difference in performance. But may be in some tasks Snapdragon 650 might be slightly faster than the snapdragon 625.  So if you are thinking that performance has increased from Redmi Note 4 to Redmi Note 3, that's not the case.
Xiaomi is saying that using Snapdragon 625 will increase the battery life of the device. Yes it will improve the battery life of the device but we know that Redmi Note 3 has also very good battery backup. So is it a good idea of using a slightly downgraded processor just to improve the battery life?

2. 2.5 D glass : Redmi Note 4 has a 2.5 D glass while Redmi Note 3 has a straight glass. The 2.5 D glass is slightly curved at the edge. The advantage of 2.5 D glass is that it makes the usage of phone smoother, our finger easily glides on the display. Also it increases the grip of the phone.

3. Camera : Xiaomi is using 13 MP rear camera on Redmi Note 4 but it is saying that it is using a different sensor on the Snapdragon variant which will improve the image quality of the rear camera.

4. Curved back : The back on the Redmi Note 4 is more curved as compared to that on Redmi Note 3. This curved back make the handling of the phone easier.

Price Cut Lenovo Z2 Plus

Price Cut Lenovo Z2 Plus
Lenovo launched Lenovo Z2 plus last year in India. This phone was launched in budget segment. This phone has two versions one having 32GB of internal storage and other having 64GB. The price of 32GB model was 18000 INR and of 64GB model was 20000 INR. At this price this phone is the best pick considering the overall aspects of the phone.
Now this phone has received a price cut, 32GB model is available at 15000 INR and 64 GB is available at 17500 INR. This device is available only online at flipkart and amazon. Now let's discuss some of the specifications of this phone.

1.Processor : This phone uses Qualcomm's snapdragon 820 processor which is a really good processor and is used in some of the most successful flagships of the year. The ram management of the device is also really good.

2.Design : The design of the phone is really good. The back of this phone is made of glass. So it looks really premium. The build quality of this phone is just okay as the glass at the back get some scratches after few days of usage.

3.Display : Lenovo Z2 plus has a 5.0 inch display size which makes this phone a really compact size phone. It easily fits in one hand and easy to use. Also this phone has a full HD display which is really good.

4.Camera : Camera is that aspect where this phone struggles. It has a very average camera. It captures decent pics in good lightening conditions but struggles in low lightening conditions. So if camera is the first priority you can simply go for Moto G4 Plus which has a much better camera performance than this.

5.Battery life : Lenovo Z2 plus is powered by a 3500 mah battery. The battery life of this phone is actually really good. It easily last for a full day and still we left with about 20% of battery left.

6.Special home button : This phone has a home button at the front which also doubles as a fingerprint magnet. It works very well as a fingerprint sensor. Also it has some special features such as switching between apps with a swipe on home button and many more. It takes some time to get used to this home button but after that it appears to be really good.

7.Sound : The sound quality of this phone is just okay. It just get the job done as it has just a single speaker.

By seeing all theses aspects of the phone I thought that this phone is best at the price of 15000 as we are getting Snapdragon 820 which ha every fast performance. But don't go for this device if you capture a lot of pics as it captures really average photos in low lightening conditions. So simply go for Moto G4 Plus if camera is the highest priority. But overall this phone is the best grab at the available price.

Tech trends in 2k17

Tech trends in 2k17

We saw many new tech trends in 2016, we also hope to see some in 2017. There is no tech trend in news till now this year which will cause tremendous change in the market. But there will be something different from the previous year like every does. There will be many technological advancements this year such as Augmented reality, virtual reality, Artificial intelligence and many more. So let's discuss one by one all of them.

Virtual Reality (VR)

In 2016 we saw very much application of Virtual reality. It is implemented in various smartphones and many gaming consoles too. With the help of this, media become very enjoyable on smartphones and games also become really enjoyable. This technology actually cuts off the person from the real world and takes him to a new world. For this the person actually has to wear a spectacle type gadget on eyes and also connect his phone to this gadget. So when a person wears this, he gets cut off from the real world and now he enjoys his media in a new manner. Actually the person thinks that all the things which are happening in a video or a game is actually happening in front of his eyes and he is also in the same world as it does. There are many gadgets based on this tech made by many companies such as Samsung gear VR, LG 360 VR headset and many more.
But this technology didn't get much successful because of it's shortcomings. The implementation is really good but it didn't get much positive feedback. Firstly the VR gadgets available in the market are not much comfortable. After few minutes of using them it becomes a little bit of uncomfortable to wear them, so it creates disturbance in enjoying stuff like media and games. Secondly for enjoying them we prefer the screens with higher resolution such as 2K displays. So smartphones having these 2K displays are also costly particularly in flagship price segment. This is also a barrier.
So we hope that many new Virtual Reality gadgets will come up in market this year. Also implementation of Virtual Reality will increase this year in various other devices.

Augmented Reality (AR)

We already know about the Virtual Reality but now it is the time to discuss about Augmented Reality (AR) too. This technology is the interpretation of the physical, real world environment by computer generated sensory input such as GPS data, sound, video, graphics etc.
This is the interpretation of the real world in a more better way. With this tech the surroundings around the user become really interactive and digitally manipulative. With this we can interact various environmental things with our real surroundings.
To implement this technology we require a processor and various sensors such as gyro, proximity, camera GPS, accelerometer. All these components work together to produce the effect of Augmented Reality. Nowadays all these things are available in mostly all of the smartphones and tablets. Google has analyzed this and so it launched it's project Tango which is based on this Augmented Reality. In this project, Google will give it's AR technology to various OEM's to implement this technology in their smartphones. First Project Tango smartphone has launched last year by Lenovo named Lenovo Phab pro. This smartphone is unique, it is not a normal smartphone. It has massive screen and has all the features to support Augmented Reality. This device has a special dual camera setup in support AR. This smartphone analyzes it's surroundings in a really different manner. With the help of this smartphone we can simply interact with surroundings in a digital manner. This Augmented Reality has many applications in many areas such as architecture, navigation, games, medical, industrial design, archeology and many more.
This technology hasn't have much application till now. But as we know will soon get implemented in our daily life by seeing the Google's efforts in this technology. Other various companies are also planning to launch smartphones based on this augmented reality. This year we will definitely see it's application in many of the devices to get better knowledge about our surroundings.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is the technology by which our gadget can interact with us with the help of  our voice or gestures. In this our gadget can do many works without actually getting in physical touch with us. These days we all have seen an assistant in our smartphones. This assistant is also based on this artificial intelligence. This assistance recognizes our voice and can do many works in our smartphones such as sending message, opening an app, calling someone, playing music etc. So this is really cool as without any physical touch with our smartphone we can interact with our smartphone.
There are many assistants these days in smartphones such as Google Assistant, Apple's Siri, Microsoft Cortana and many more. This assistants get activated by saying some code words such as 'okay google' in android smartphones. Our smartphone recognizes our voice and activate this assistant. These assistants are not only available in our smartphones, these days we saw this technology in many gadgets such as we Google Now which is a wifi speaker. This speaker can easily stream songs from the cloud by just recognizing our voice of requesting it play it. This can simply talk to us. This speaker delivers rich bass and clear highs.
There is also implementation of artificial intelligence in many other devices. Nowadays we have special lightening equipments which can control the amount of light by sensing the amount of light required in the room. Also we have air purifiers which can sense the pollution level outside in the surroundings and can purify the air in the room according to it.
In future we will see furthur implementation of this artificial intelligence in many new devices.

Fitness trackers

All of us know that fitness is really important for us these days. If a person is physically fit his life will be really happy, he will be away from many of the diseases. So why not to keep a track on our fitness. Keeping in mind of this many companies have launched their fitness trackers. These fitness trackers keep check on our activity and tell us about our activity whole of the day. So these are really helpful in telling us about our fitness. It tells us about our fitness in the form of various elements such as distance walked, number of steps, calorie consumption, heartbeat, quality of sleep etc.
These fitness trackers are mostly in the shape of watch which we can wear on our wrist. These mostly come with straps which can tighten on our wrists so that they don't get separated from us during running or doing any physical activity. Fitness trackers are available with display and without display both. The one having displays shows all the elements on their display while the other not having displays are connected with our smartphones or computers and shows all the data with the help of some specific apps. There are many companies making their fitness bands such as Xiaomi, Fitbit, Garmin, Xiaomi, Samsung etc.
Actually the fitness trackers available in the market right now are not that much accurate. They tell some misguiding data about these elements. They only tell approximate values. So let's hope that these fitness trackers will get more advanced this year so that we can get more accurate readings.

Driverless Cars

Cars are used since many years to travel from one place to other. They are considered the most convenient way for travelling. They are really fast way of travelling by road. These days there are many companies launching their cars everyday such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Maruti Suzuki, Tata and many more. Also there are many companies like ferrari which make very fast cars used in racing. Neither company has made a driverless car, all of these cars need drivers to drive the cars.
But now many companies are working to make a driverless car which can drive the car without a drivers. Only we have to do is input our destination and it will simply take us there. These cars use combination of various sensors and it's specially designed computer to drive the car. These cars have their own built in special artificial intelligence which can interact between the software and the hardware and also interact with us. In 2017 we will definitely see many driverless cars moving on the roads. And the most important thing to note is this that these cars will simply look like normal cars, they don't have much larger antennas at the top of the car which we assume to be.

Bezels getting smaller...

In 2016 we saw a concept phone which don't have bezels. Xiaomi is the manufacturer of this phone. But it launched this device only as a concept phone. This device has bezelless design which makes this phone's screen extremely good. But instead of these thin bezels this phone has many disadvantages due to this bezelless design.
Actually bezels in a smartphone protects the smartphone's screen from various breaks which can occur due to drops. As this phone has no bezels so it becomes more prone to the breaks.
So it becomes difficult for the smartphone manufacturers to build a bezelless smartphone keeping in mind that it's screen can break easily. Instead of this, these companies are trying their best to make the bezels of the phones really thin. In 2017 we will see many phones with this bezelless design.

Moto M

Moto M

Last month motorola added a new line in it's budget segment that is 'M. This new series focuses on the budget price segment. It launched a new smartphone in this segment named Moto M. It actually launched two versions of Moto M one with 32GB internal storage and other with 64GB. Earlier Motorola has G series in this price segment but now it introduces the M series which is slightly higher than G series. Motorola prices this smartphone at 16000 INR for 32 GB version and 18000 INR for 64 GB version. So now let's check it out whether it is a good buy at this price or not.

Size: 5.5 inch
Weight: 163 grams
Display:1080p full HD IPS LCD display
Processor:Mediatek Helio- P15 with octa core processor in which each core is cloaked at 2.2 GHz
User interface:Android OS v6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
SIM:Dual SIM hybrid slot
Primary:16MP with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus
Video:1080p @ 30fps
USB:Type-C 1.0 reversible connector
3.5 mm jack:Yes
Sensors:Proximity, Compass, Gyro, Accelerometer, Fingerprint, autobrightness
Memory:32GB with 3GB RAM
                64GB with 4GB RAM
Card slot:Yes upto 256GB
Battery:Non removable Li-Po 3050 mah battery

The design of this phone is really impressive. This time Motorola has made full metal body for Moto M. The device looks really nice. But the metal used is just a thin layer of aluminum. It also has those chamfered edges for better looks. On top it has 3.5 mm jack and secondary noise cancellation. On right it has power button and volume rockers. On left it has sim tray which can accept either two SIMs or a SIM card and a micro SD card. At bottom it has speaker. At back it has fingerprint sensor, rear camera and the Moto branding. Also at back the edges are curved for better handling. The phone looks really premium in hand. The built quality of phone is also good. It feels really solid in hand. This time Motorola is trying to improve the looks of the phone. Overall Moto M has a really good design.

Moto M has a full HD IPS LCD. The display is really good on this phone. The screen also looks really bright. The colors look really good on this phone. The saturation levels are also good. The viewing angles also good. Screen is also visible outside in direct sunlight. Overall Moto M is equipped with really good screen.

Moto M is powered by Mediatek Helio-P15 chipset which works on octa core processor with each core cloaked at 2.2 GHz. This is a slightly higher version of Mediatek Helio-P10 chipset. The processing of this device is decent. During day to day's usage there is no issue, all things go smoothly. But during high end work the phone struggles, it pushes the processor. This device is powered by Mali-T860MP2 GPU which is also very basic GPU. So while playing high end games like asphalt 8 there are a lot of frame drops and lags but casual games such as subway surfers work fine on the device. During normal day's usage multitasking is decent on this device. So overall the processor struggles during highly graphic intensive work.

Primary: Moto M is equipped with 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and phase detection autofocus. The camera performs well in good lightening conditions. The pictures are  really good with lot of detail. Also it captures some good macro shoots. It also shows bokeh effect in it's photos. In low lightening conditions the camera struggles a lot. There is lot of noise in the pictures captured with it's rear camera.
Secondary: Moto M is equipped with 8MP secondary camera which has the sensor size of 1/4". This camera performs very well in low as well as good lightening conditions. Also there is lot of detail in pictures captured. The color accuracy is also good of this camera.

Moto M has two speakers at the the bottom. It is also equipped with Dolby Atmos technology. The speaker is good on this device. It is loud enough to get the job done. But it would be better if this speaker is at the front. Sound output via headphone jack is really awesome particularly the bass produced is really good.
Battery life

The battery life of the device is slightly above average. It easily lasts for a day on a typical day's usage. It easily gives 4-5 hours of screen on time with a typical day's usage. After a day we still have some amount of juice left (15-20%).
The charging speed of Moto M is good, it gets fully charge from 10% to 100% just in 1.5 hour which is good. The battery life of this device is not as great as redmi note 3 but it is okay, it can easily last for a day.

Cellular call quality

Cellular call quality is nice on this device. There is no problem while making or receiving calls. The voice is also clear while talking on phone. Also there is no call drop issue on the device as the network reception is good on this.

User interface

Moto M runs on android v6.0.1which is based on Android Marshmallow. User interface is quite good on the device. There are very less apps preinstalled in the phone out of the box, it means this device comes with very less bloatware which is a nice thing. So it gives the feeling of stock android. The user interface is quite snappy, there is no lag whatsoever during day to day's usage. All things run easily on the device. It is very easy to use this interface and one get used to it for using it for few minutes. Some of the Moto apps don't come with this device as Moto is saying that this device is powered by a mediatek processor, so it doesn't support those apps. Also it is promised to upgrade to Android N soon.

Comparison with Moto G4 Plus

As this device is priced very nearly to Moto G4 Plus, it is very important to compare both of these.
1. Firstly they both have exactly same user interface, so there is no difference between them.
2. The battery life of these are also about same.
3. The camera is better on Moto G4 plus as it performs better in low lightening conditions. Moto M's camera performance is equivalent to what we see in redmi note 3.
4. The processing is better on Moto G4 plus for high end tasks.
5. Moto G4 plus has lot of heating issues while Moto M doesn't exhibit any heating issues.
6. The sound output is better on Moto M as it is having Dolby Atmos sound.
Final verdict

This smartphone is priced at 16000 INR for 32GB version. In this price group we have many smartphones such as Moto G4 plus, Redmi note 3 and Lenovo K5 Note. This device is:
 not having good performance
having a bad camera for it's price
having bad battery performance for it's price
having good design, good sound output and stock android experience.
Spending 16000 INR, just for good design and stock android is not a good idea. This device is not a value for money because we have many other choices in this price segment such as redmi note 3 and moto G4 plus which are overall better than this. So they are better value for money according to the priorities. Moto M is somewhat overpriced.

Many smartphones launched in all price segments that are flagship, budget and mid- range. Among these smartphones some got very hit that they become the best sellers of the year and some got really bad feedback. So companies which work very well on their smartphones got a really positive feedback. There are many companies which launch their smartphones in 2016 such as Samsung, Apple, Motorola, Google, htc, LG, Lenovo, Xiaomi, One Plus and many more. The smartphones which have been launched in this year are Samsung S7 edge, Samsung Note 7, Apple iPhone 7 and 7 plus, Google Pixel and Pixel xl, One Plus 3 and 3T, LG G5, htc 10, Xiaomi mi 5, Xiaomi mi 5s, Xiaomi mi mix, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3s, Moto G4 plus, Moto Z Play, Moto Z, Lenovo zuk z1 and z2 plus, Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, Samsung J series, Samsung A series and many more. Today I would like to reveal my thoughts on some of the best smartphones in each price segment which are launched in 2016.
I will divide my discussion in three price segments:
1.Budget (upto 18000 INR)
2.Mid-range (20000-35000 INR)
3.Flagship (above 35000 INR)

Budget segment
In this segment many smartphones launched this year. This segment is the most flooded one. A great number of smartphones launch in this price segment. The price bracket of this segment is upto 18000 INR. The best smartphones which launched this year in this price segment are Redmi Note 3, Moto G4 plus, Redmi 3s, Lenovo Vibe K5 Note.

Redmi Note 3

The best selling smartphone of the year 2016 in budget segment. And really this smartphone deserves this position. It is priced at 12000 INR for 32GB model. The price of this phone is really justified.
All the things are really good in this smartphone, seeing it's price. The performance of the smartphone is really good as it is powered by Snapdragon 650 which is really fast chipset. This phone has a full metallic body which provides it a good build quality. It has full HD display which is really good. The camera of the device is also really good but it struggles in low lightening conditions. We can't expect more in this price segment. The battery life of the phone is also very good, it easily last up for 1.5 days. Overall the phone is full value for money.

Moto G4 plus

Moto G4 plus is also a great phone in budget segment. It is priced at 15000 INR. The phone got a great fame due to it's super cool camera. The camera of the Moto G4 plus is really awesome (especially rear camera). It performs well in natural lightening conditions as well as in low lightening conditions. It has best camera in this class. The performance of this smartphone of this smartphone is also good. It performs all day to day tasks very well. The built quality of this smartphone is not great, it has all plastic body. But the phone feels really solid in hand. The display of the device is really good as it has full HD AMOLED display.
Moto G4 Plus is well known for it's heating issues. It heats up like crazy while playing heavy games and using camera for more than 15 minutes but the camera of the phone is best in this budget segment.

Redmi 3s prime

Redmi 3s prime is also a great phone in this price segment. It is priced just at 9000 INR. It has all the features which a premium phone should have. It has full metallic body which give it a premium look while the metal used is just a thin layer of aluminum. Also it has a good processor which handles all the tasks without any issues and lags. It has 720p display but it also a good one. Also it has a good camera at this price. Overall the phone is quite good. The battery life of this phone is great as it has a massive 4000 mah battery.

Lenovo Vibe K5 Note

Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is also a good device launched in 2016. It is priced at 12000 INR. This device is well known for it's sound output. K5 Note is powered by by Dolby Atmos which enhances the sound output of the device. Sound output through speaker is good but sound output through headphone jack is best in this class. The processing of this phone is also good, it handles all the tasks without any issues. The camera of this phone is also good under natural lightening conditions while it struggles in low lightening conditions. The display of this device is also good as it also has a full HD display.

In this segment the price of of the smartphones ranges from 18000 INR to 35000 INR. In this segment there are many good smartphones such as One plus 3T, Lenovo Z2 Plus, Moto Z Play, Honor 8 and many more. Some of the smartphones in this segment have the capabilities of even outperforming some of the flagships in some aspects. Now let's see which aspects make them to do so.

One Plus 3T

One Plus 3T is more or less like the previously launched One Plus 3. It only has upgraded camera and processor. It has all the capabilities which a flagship phone should have. It simply outscores some of the flagships in some aspects. This smartphone is priced at 30000 INR. This device has a really fast processor which handles all the tasks very smoothly. It is one of the fastest android devices available in the market. One plus 3T is very much famous for battery charging speed. It only takes one hour to fully charge from 0%. This is only possible due to the dash charger provided with the device itself. The dash charging technology used in the One Plus 3T get really famous.
One Plus 3T is also has a premium build. It has full metal body design. The device actually looks really good in hands. Also at back edges are curved to make the handling easy. One Plus 3T has full HD display. The display is really good on this. It has very thin bezels which makes the display better. One Plus 3T's camera is also very good. It performs well in good lightening conditions. In low lightening conditions the pictures are decent but they are not as good as to compete with the flagships. While considering it's price range the camera is good.
So considering all this we found that the One Plus 3T is full value for money. It's price is somewhat half than many of the flagships but the performance is  equal to them.

Lenovo Z2 Plus

Lenovo Z2 Plus is also a good device in this price range. It is priced at 20000 INR. The device owns the same processor as the One Plus 3 that is snapdragon 820, so it's performance is really good. It handles all the tasks without any issues. It is not as fast as One Plus 3 but considering it's price range it is really fast. Lenovo Z2 Plus has a 5 inch display and display is really good and has good viewing angles. This device has a glass back which gives it a premium look but at the same time it makes the phone very slippery.
The camera of this device is just average. It performs well in good lightening conditions but in low lightening conditions it struggles a lot. The battery life of this is nothing short of insane, it can easily last for 1.5 days for a moderate day usage. Considering it's price range the phone is best buy under 20000 INR.

Moto Z Play

Moto Z play is also a very good device from Motorola in this price segment. This device is based on modular concept. It has Moto mods which stick at the back of the phone and increases it's functionality. It has various mods such as camera mod, speaker mod, projector mod, battery mod. But the owner has to actually buy the Moto mods separately. They don't come bundled with the device.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 625 chipset which is based on 14nm architecture. The processing of this phone is really fast. It handles all the basic tasks without any issues. The build quality of the device is also really nice. It has full glass body which makes it really premium looking phone. The battery life of this device is fabulous. It is due to the 14nm processor which is very power efficient. The camera of the device is just average. It performs well in good lightening conditions but  struggles a lot in low lightening conditions. The display is full HD on this device which is also really good.
By seeing all this we saw that this phone is really good at the price. Buy the phone if you want a great battery life,  really premium build and want to taste the new modular concept. But keep in mind you have to purchase these mods separately.

Honor 8

Honor 8 is a camera centric smartphone in this segment. It is priced at 30000 INR. It is one of those rear phones which comes with dual rear camera setup. The most amazing feature of this device is it's camera. The camera performs really well in good as well as low lightening conditions. Pics captured with it's rear camera are simply comparable with some of the flagships. Huawei has done a very great job in Honor 8's camera department. The device looks really premium as it has glass back, which gives it a premium touch. It is powered by Hisilicon Kirin 950 processor winch handles all the tasks without any issues and lags. The battery life of the device is not good. It doesn't even last for one day. The display is also not good on this device. Outdoor visibility is not good on this device. The user interface is also not good as stock android.
So reason of buying this smartphone is only it's camera as it has best camera in this class.

Flagship phones

My most interesting segment of the smartphones is this flagship segment. In this segment there are phones in which company provide best ever features available. Some companies worked very well on their flagship smartphones. In this segment price of smartphones is above 40000 INR. In 2016 we saw many flagship smartphones such as Samsung S7 edge, Apple iPhone 7 and 7 plus, Google pixel and pixel xl, LG G5, htc 10, Samsung Note 7 and many more. Among them the best are Samsung s7 edge, Apple iPhone 7 plus and Google Pixel xl.

Samsung S7 Edge

Samsung S7 edge is one of the best flagships of 2016. It has all things just perfect. That's why it has become the most appealing flagship of the year. The smartphone was priced at 56900 INR but now it is available at 50900 INR at flipkart.
The most interesting feature of this smartphone is it's curved display. The curved display looks really good on this device. It has resolution of 2160p on a 5.5 inch display. The display is really good because Samsung is very famous for it's AMOLED displays.
The camera of this smartphone is also really good. Samsung has done a great job on it's camera department.
The processing of this phone is also really good. It comes in two models one with snapdragon 820 processor and other with exynos 8890. Both the models perform very well. It does all the tasks butter smooth. It is one of the fast phones in the market.
The design of the smartphone is also really premium. It has glass back which gives it a premium touch. The phone's design is best in any flagship available right now. But this glossy back also make the phone really slippery. Also it has waterproof and dustproof design.
Next most interesting feature of this device is it's fast charging. It gets charged fully from 0% to 100% just in one and a half hours. It also supports wireless charging. By seeing all this  we concluded that this device is one among the best flagships of the year.

Apple iPhone 7 plus

Apple iPhone 7 plus is the most famous flagship of the year. All of us know about the iPhones. The most famous of the flagships of all the time is apple iPhone 7 plus. This year apple launched Apple iPhone 7 and 7plus. Apple launches only one flagship per year. IPhones have their special place in the flagship market. They stand alone as a king in the smartphone market. The pricing of the iPhones are also really high. This year apple priced iPhone 7 plus at 72000 INR for 32 GB, 82000 INR for 64 GB and 92000 INR for 128GB model.
IPhone 7 Plus is powered by the Apple's own A-10 chip which is the fastest ever chip in the market. It handles all the tasks butter smooth. There is no lag whatsoever in any task.
The iPhone 7 Plus has IPS LCD display which  a 1080p resolution display. The display is good on this smartphone but not as good as Samsung s7 edge. The camera of this device is also really good. It captures very good pics in good as well as low lightening conditions. Apple has done a really good job in it's camera department. It's pics are simply comparable to the Samsung s7 edge and sometimes better in some conditions. Both have tough competition in camera department.
The design of Apple iPhone 7 Plus is still the previous one. The design is good but Apple should change the design. Putting same design from last two years is not a good idea. After seeing all this we concluded that iPhone 7 plus is a really good flagship.

Google Pixel XL

Google Pixel xl is also one of the most prominent flagship this year. It is a Google product but the OEM is htc. This is the first smartphone of pixel series. Google's smartphones are very well known for getting updates first in the market, earlier than any other smartphone.
Google pixel xl is powered by the Qualcomm's snapdragon 821 chipset, but the processor is somewhat undercloaked. The processing of this phone is really fast. It is the fastest android smartphone available in the market right now. Google pixel xl get very much fame for it's camera. Google has done a really good job in manufacturing the camera. It has HDR plus mode which helps in capturing really great shots. The HDR plus mode on Google pixel xl make this phone the best camera phone this year.
The design of Google pixel xl is really boring. The device feels also bulky and difficult to hold with one hand. Google pixel xl has a AMOLED QHD display. The resolution of this display is 2160p. The display is really good on this smartphone. The battery life of this smartphone is also really awesome. It easily last for a 1.5 days for a typical day usage. So considering all this we concluded that the device is really good but very expensive.
Now I would like to tell you about my best picks of smartphones in each price segment. These smartphones are picked considering all the aspects in a smartphone. These are not picked by just considering only one aspect. This is based on overall performance of the device including all aspects such as battery life, processing, display, design, price, camera, user interface.

Budget segment : My pick in this segment is Redmi Note which is a very good device from xiaomi this year and it also became the best seller this year in budget segment.
Mid-range segment: My pick in this segment goes to One Plus 3T (the flagship killer). This smartphone holds all the things good to outshine even a flagship in some departments.
Flagship: My pick in this department goes to Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. This device is also really adorable considering all the aspects and most importantly it's price. This is also the most beautiful phone this year.

The most innovative design in 2016

Xiaomi launched xiaomi mi mix this year with bezelless design. It's display has no bezels at the front. Xiaomi released this smartphone as a concept smartphone. The phone looks really good without any bezels. The screen to body ratio of it's display is 17:9. Without bezels the screen of the phone appears to be floating which looks very good. The videos and games are very much enjoyable on this smartphone.
Except all this the phone is powered by snapdragon 821 which does all tasks without any issues and lags. The body of this device is made of ceramic which gives it a very premium look and at the same time it makes the phone really slippery. The size of the screen is 6.4 inch which makes this phone difficult to hold with one hand. Also it uses the piezoelectric technology instead of earpiece to listen voice and ultrasonic proximity sensor instead of regular one.
Xiaomi has done a really nice job in doing some innovative this year by making a bezelless display phone. This is still a concept phone. This phone should only be bought to use as a secondary smartphone not as a regular one.

The fastest phone

The fastest phone of the year is Apple iPhone 7 and 7 plus. Both are powered by the some processor that is Apple's A-10 fusion chip. This chip is really fast. It handles all the tasks without any issues. There is no lag in day to day tasks, all things go butter smooth. The optimization between the software and hardware is done very well by Apple which makes it a really fast phone.

The best camera phone

The best camera phone this year as all of us know is Google pixel and pixel xl. The camera on this smartphone is really good. The HDR plus mode on this makes it a best camera phone of the year. Google is saying that it has worked on this camera technology for more than 2 years.

New trends in 2016

There are various new trends in 2016. The most interesting of them are as follows:-

Modular phones

The modular phones this year got really famous. There are two phones which launched on this modular concept this year, that are Moto Z series and LG G5. Mods can be attached to these phones and increase their functionality. There are various mods which can be attached to these phones to improve their camera, battery life and sound. Also there are mods which can project the screen of the phone on a wall. This module concept is really good which helps in increasing functionality of the phone.
This module concept is new in market, that's why it is having various bugs. Firstly these mods make the phone thicker to use and also it makes the phone heavier. So to use this bulky phone with mods is somewhat uncomfortable.
Secondly these mods don't come bundled with the phone. We have to actually buy them separately. So it adds extra cost to the phone.

Project ARA

All of us know about the Google's project ara which is also based on this modular concept phones. This project takes this module concept to a next level. In this, Google has announced to make a phone in which almost all things can be changed in a phone with changing these mods. In this various mods can be used to make a full phone. There is mod for almost everything in phone such as screen, processor, RAM, speaker, camera, body, any sensor and many more.
But unfortunately Google stopped this project ara. Google has built some concept phones in this project, but they were not able to be used as a normal phone. Maybe Google will again start this project soon but till now it is cancelled.

Project Tango

All of us know about the Google's collaboration with Lenovo on project Tango. In this project Google want to make a phone which can analyse it's surroundings in 3 dimension. So on this basis Lenovo has launched a smartphone named Lenovo Phab 2 pro which is the first Project Tango smartphone. With this smartphone we can detect our position relative to the world around us without using GPS and any other external signals. This type of smartphones are very much useful for architects because this can tell an architect how a thing will look like when it is placed at that position, it also helps in designing various new things. This technology will develop further in future and will also increases it's functionality.

Virtual reality

Another major trend which is usually seen in 2016 is Virtual reality. In 2016 virtual reality got really famous. Many gadgets  based on virtual reality launched this year such as Microsoft Hololens, Google's daydream, Samsung gear VR and various other companies working on these devices. These type of devices are very much useful in virtual reality department. One plus is also working on these virtual reality gadgets for their smartphones.
This virtual reality has very much application these days. Various press conferences occur in virtual reality these days. It also increases the ease of watching movies these days on smartphones. It also has a very great application in gaming, various gadgets supporting virtual reality come bundled with Xbox and Sony's PlayStation these days. This increases the graphics of the games very much.
Also I have discussed about the new concept smartphone by xiaomi which  has bezelless design. This is also a very good innovation from xiaomi.

Improvements in 2016 in smartphones

In 2016 there are many improvements in the smartphones. Some of them are listed here:-

Battery life : This year battery life of the smartphones got really improved. Most of the smartphones these days last for a full working day with a typical day's usage. And most importantly some of the budget smartphones such as Redmi note 3, Redmi 3s , Lenovo K6 Power and many more, come with massive batteries and these batteries last up for about 1.5 days.

Camera: Camera of the smartphones also improved a lot in 2016. In 2016 we came across some of the best camera phones such as Google pixel or pixel xl, iPhone 7 or 7 plus and Samsung galaxy s7 edge. The cameras in budget segment also improved, their performance in good lightening conditions is very good but mostly their performance in low lightening conditions is bad. But still there are exceptions smartphone like Moto g4 plus also performs well in low lightening conditions.
Better processor : In 2016 we came across very fast processor used in smartphones such as Apple's A-10 chipset and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, which are the fastest chips till the date. Every year they released their new chips which are faster than their previous versions. So hope this year even better chips come in the smartphone market.

Charging speed : In 2016 the charging speeds of smartphones really got improved. This year we come across smartphones which can even charge the phone within 1 to 1.5 hours. But the most amazing is One Plus's dash charger technology which can fully charge One Plus 3 or 3T just in 1 hour. There are also some other phones such as Samsung S7 edge which also supports very fast charging and also support wireless charging.

Better display: This year we also get some of the best displays of all the times on various smartphones. There brightness levels get better. The colors look more accurate on them. The outdoors visibility also get improved. But the best display is on Samsung s7 edge this year, which is a qHD display.

The Bust of the year 2016

The Bust of the year 2016 goes to one and only Samsung Galaxy Note 7. This phone really disappoint whole of the world. It is the phone which carries the best features available till now. It has a very good camera, fast processor, best ever display, Samsung S pencil, Ultimate design and many more things. It has all things just perfect except it's battery which explodes in each and every part of the world thus burning the phone. There are various cases which came across us in which phone just explodes. Whole of the world get shocked from this thereby shocking the company even which has never thought of this condition of it's best ever phone.
Actually Samsung has done a very early launch of this Note 7 actually to launch it before Apple iphone7 launch. But unfortunately this early launch come as a bad news for Samsung thereby destroying company's best ever smartphone. So that's why this is simply called the bust of year 2016 in smartphones market.
