LG G6 in India

We know about LG, a very successful company in field of electronic devices. And in smartphone market it is also very renowned. It launches it's smartphone in every price segment that are budget, mid range and flagship. LG has two flagship series that is G series and V series. It's last smartphone from V series was LG V20 and now it's time for G series. Last year at MWC it announced LG G5 which is based on modular concept smartphone. And now it's time for 6th generation of LG's flagship that is LG G6. LG announced this smartphone at MWC 2017 this year at Barcelona. But this smartphone is not a modular smartphone because modules add extra cost to the smartphone and it has other cons too. So it didn't get too well and that's why the company ditches this in the next generation. LG launched LG G6 in India on 24th of April. So let's see some of the specs of the phone.

Size: 5.7 inch
Display: IPS LCD quad HD capacitive touchscreen
Resolution: 1440*2880 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Weight: 163 gm
Chipset: Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chipset
GPU: Adreno 530
Operating System: Android OS 7.0 Nougat
Primary: dual camera, one 13MP with f/1.8 aperture and other 13MP with f/2.4 aperture
Video: upto 4K @30fps and 1080p @30/60fps
Secondary: 5MP f/2.2 aperture
Sensors: accelerometer, proximity, fingerprint, compass, gyro, barometer
Battery: 3300 may non removable battery
USB: Type-C 1.0 reversible connector
3.5 mm jack: Yes
 Internal: 32/64 GB
Ram: 4GB
Micro SD: Yes upto 256 GB

The design of LG G6 is really interesting. The design of the phone looks really premium. The most interesting feature of the device is it's display. LG wants to put a bigger display in this but at the same time it also wants this device to be used with one hand. So the only solution to this is reducing the bezels of the smartphone keeping the size same. This will increase the size of the display. So LG has implemented this in LG G6 and so it called this display as Full Vision display. The display looks really good on the smartphone. It has very thin bezels. The display has resolution of 1440*2880 pixels. So it has an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display is protected by corning gorilla glass 3 on front. The phone is also having always on display just like Samsung S8. Also in the device we can split the screen in two perfectly squares due to it's full vision display.

Back is also made of glass this time. The back is protected by corning gorillas glass 5 for protection against drops. The back can get fingerprints also, so it will make the phone smudged to hold and also the phone will be slippery to hold. So it's an advice to use a case with the phone. An aluminum frame runs around the two glass panels. The phone is actually not having a dedicated power on/off button, it is actually embedded in the fingerprint sensor. At back the phone is having a fingerprint sensor and dual rear camera. Also the phone is resistant to water and dust.
So overall the LG has worked well on it's flagship smartphone and provided such a good design.

LG G6 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chipset. This chipset is based on a quad core processor with four kryo cores cloaked at 2.35 GHz and other four kryo cores cloaked at 1.6 GHz. LG has chosen previous version of Snapdragon's high end chipset, as it's latest version is Snapdragon 835. The reason behind this is that Samsung had already signed a contract with Qualcomm to provide the first batch of Snapdragon 835 to it so that it can put it in Samsung S8+. And LG launched LG G6 at the time of MWC, so may be at that time there would be shortage of Snapdragon 835 as first batch was taken by Samsung.
By the way Snapdragon 821 is also a very good chipset. It was used in many flagship smartphones last year such as One Plus 3T, Google Pixel and Xiaomi mi 5S. The chipset is good one, it can perform all the tasks without any issues. The performance is buttery smooth. So the general performance of the device will be very smooth, there won't be any lags whatsoever in day to day usage. Also there won't be any delays in opening apps.
For graphic intensive tasks the phone is powered by Adreno 530 GPU. This GPU is capable of handling all the graphic intensive tasks without any issues. So the phone can play all the heavy games like Asphalt 8, Nova 3 and Modern Combat 5 without any lags or frame drops. So the gaming performance of the device will also be really good. So for performance there won't be any issues.
Operating System
LG G6 has it's own operating skin which is based on Android Nougat 7.0.1. The operating system is alike all other LG phones. The OS here is a little bit different from stock android. It is little bit difficult to use for a person who is coming from a device which has stock android. For finding a thing in settings you have to put a little bit more effort because it is something to find in a maze. But the usage of the device will be good. There won't any issues or lags in general usage of the device as mentioned earlier.

LG G6 is having dual rear camera of 13 MP. In these two camera sensors, one is having f/1.8 aperture lens with OIS, 3-axis optical zoom and PDAF and other one is having f/2.4 aperture lens. Among these two camera sensors one is a simple color sensor but the other one is the sesnor huh can capture wide photos. LG has applied this dual camera technology first time in LG G5 and then in LG V20. The camera performance of the device will be really good. As the other two are also among the best camera phones last year. This camera can record videos upto 4K @30fps. It can also record 1080p videos @30/60fps.
LG G6 has a 5 MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture. This can record videos upto 1080p only. So this year I hope that LG G6 will again come in some of the best camera phones.

 Battery life
LG G6 has a non removable battery of 3300 mah. The battery life of the phone will be good enough to last for one day as seen from the amount of battery provided. The battery life of the device totally depends upon optimization done. So it won't be right to comment anything about the battery life of the device without using it. It can only be revealed by any end user of LG G6.

LG G6 is having all the basic sensors such as gyro, proximity, accelerometer, barometer, fingerprint, autobrightness and compass. It is not having iris scanner and heart rate sensor like Samsung galaxy S8. The fingerprint scanner is back mounted and it also acts as a power on/off button. The fingerprint scanner is very fast, it immediately unlocks the phone as soon as we touch the finger.

Final verdict

LG G6 is priced at 52000 INR and is available at Amazon. Amazon is also providing cashback/off on this phone on HDFC/SBI credit/debit cards. So the user can get this at around 46000 INR only. It will compete with those of Samsung Galaxy S8 and iphone 7 which are also in the same price range. This time LG has priced it's phone very aggressively. We can grab this phone at around 46000 INR by applying all the offers. So it is priced around 10000 INR less than the Samsung Galaxy S8 which is priced at 58000 INR. But there are some shortcomings too in this phone. This is not having the latest version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon high end chipset that is Snapdragon 835. This is also having some sensors less than S8. So these are some of the basic differences between the two. They both have good cameras. Both run on Android Nougat. But the display will be better on Samsung S8 as it has an AMOLED display and also have that edge display with very thin bezels which makes the phone very premium to look at. So LG G6 is not a bad deal at 46000 INR. The pricing is very aggressive this time from LG.

Xioami Mi 6

Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi is very famous for it's flagship phones. Last year it launched 5th generation of it's flagship that is Xiaomi Mi 5 and now it's time for the 6th generation. After a lot of rumors of the device like Snapdragon 835 chipset, dual rear camera, iris scanner, 5 inch QHD display, Xiaomi has actually launched the device. While some of it's rumors were right but some were wrong too. On 19th April in a event at Beijing the company launched Xiaomi Mi 6. It will compete with those of One Plus 3T which is also in the same price range. Xiaomi didn't mention anything about the global availability of the device. So without wasting further time let's see some of the specifications of the device.

Size: 5.15 inch
Display: IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
Resolution: Full HD 1080*1920 pixels
Chipset: Snapdragon 835 chipset
GPU: Adreno 540
OS: MIUI 8.0 based on Android version 7.1.1
Weight: 168 gm
USB: USB Type-C reversible connector 1.0
Sensors: Fingerprint, Gyro, Proximity, Barometer, Accelerometer, Compass
Primary: Dual 12 MP camera, OIS, PDAF
Video: upto 4K
Secondary: 8MP
3.5mm jack: No
Battery: Non-removable 3350 mah battery
Internal Storage: 64GB and 128GB

Xiaomi Mi 6 has a very good design. It has glass on front as well as back which makes it really premium. The frame is a metal one. Xiaomi has used a curved glass on the display. At back the edges of the glass are curved for better handling. The phone has compact size of 5.15 inch so it easily fits in One hand and is a quite handy device. This time Xiaomi has skipped 3.5 mm headphone jack in this. But the build quality of the phone is really good. It also looks super premium. This time Xiaomi has also added many colors to it's flagship but most of these extra colors will be available in china only. The colors which will be available globally are black, blue, white and silver. The most interesting of these will be silver color which is very difficult to build with glass. Also one more premium version of Xiaomi Mi 6 is the ceramic one, which company introduced last year. This ceramic version looks really premium and has 18 carrot gold rims around the rear camera lens.
Xiaomi mi 5 was also having a glass design but it was very slippery so it will be interesting to see whether Xiaomi has implemented anything in this one or not for reducing slip effect.
On front Xiaomi mi 6 is having a 5.15 inch display which is IPS LCD type display. This is having a full HD resolution with 1080*1920 pixels of resolution. This display is having a Ppi of 428.

Xiaomi Mi 6 is having a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset which is based on an octa core processor with four kryo cores cloaked at 2.45 GHz and the other four kryo cores cloaked at 1.9 GHz. It's the first phone in china to feature Snapdragon 835 chipset in it's flagship. Snapdragon 835 is successor to Snapdragon 820. This chipset is made for flagship devices. So the performance of the phone will be really good. The phone will be really fast, there won't be any lags or any other issue regarding processing in the device as it packs one of the fastest chips of the mobile industry. Also the chipset is based on 10nm architecture so it will be really power efficient. For good graphics the device packs Adreno 540 GPU. So it can easily do all the graphic intensive tasks without any issues. It can easily play all the heavy games like asphalt 8, nova 3, modern combat 5 and many more without any lags frame drops. So there won't be any issues regarding any processing of the device.

The camera of Xiaomi mi 6 can be the main high lighting point of the device. It is having dual 12MP rear camera with one sensor having f/1.8 aperture and OIS and the other sensor having f/2.6 aperture. Among these two sensors one is a simple color sensor and the other one a Monochrome RGB sensor. This dual cameras help in judging the environment more accurately and thus producing better natural colors in images. The rear camera also has phase detection autofocus system for better focusing and it also has dual tone dual LED flash. The rear camera has 4 axis Optical Image Stabilization for still shots and stable video recording. Also this camera has 2x optical zoom just like iPhone 7. It also has portrait mode just like iPhone 7 for better bokeh effect or depth of feel. This camera can record videos upto 4K @30fps. This can also record slo mo videos of 720p @120fps. It has a 8MP secondary camera which can record videos upto 1080p.

Xiaomi mi 6 is having a non removable 3350 mah battery. I can't comment about the battery life of the phone because Xiaomi mi 5 was having 3000 mah battery but the battery life of the device was very average. It didn't even last for a full day. We can't say anything about the battery life of xiaomi mi 6 at this moment of time. It can only be revealed by using the device for few days. By the way the device also supports fast charging that is Quick Charge 3.0 so it can be charged very fast. The device is having a USB Type-C connector. Xiaomi mi 6 also ditches 3.5mm headphone jack, so users have to use either Bluetooth headset or Type-C headset.

Operating System

Xiaomi Mi 6 is powered by MIUI 8 which is based on Android Nougat. The OS of the device is good. It is just like all other Xiaomi phones. There is not that much of bloatware on the device. It will be having some xiaomi apps. Also xiaomi update their phones from time to time. It also pushes security updates every month. It isn't like other Chinese companies like Lenovo which break their promises on updates and also don't even provide security updates.

Xiaomi Mi 6 is having all the basic sensors like accelerometer, barometer, proximity, gyro, compass, fingerprint. It also has sensors like ambient light sensor which adjust the brightness of the phone automatically. There were rumors that Xiaomi mi 6 will also have Iris scanner for unlocking the phone by scanning the eye's iris. But it is not having this sensor. It is okay as it has fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device.

Final verdict

Xiaomi mi 6 is one of the phones which has very premium specs with very affordable price. It has the same processor as that in Samsung Galaxy S8. It has dual rear camera system with f/1.8 aperture size. It is having a very great build. The design of the phone is also very premium. It also comes in 11 different colors. The colors like silver will be very premium to see. Also the ceramic edition will also be very premium from Xiaomi. There is no device in this price range with these type of specs. One Plus 5 which will launch in 2 or 3 months will also have some of the same specs like it is also rumored to pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset. So it will compete with One Plus 5 in future.

HTC One X10

HTC One X10

We all have heard about HTC, the company well known for making android smartphones. HTC is the company which has given us the first android smartphone that is HTC G1. It is a very prominent company in the smartphone industry. But from last 2-3 years company is incurring losses due to less sales of it's mobiles. There are many reasons for these losses. One of these, which is very bad on HTC's part is the bad pricing of the smartphones. HTC prices smartphone very high as compared to it's competitors. Also it is facing very tough competition from chinese makers which prices their phones very aggressively. This is the condition in the mid range and budget segment of the smartphones. In Flagship market HTC launches it's smartphones against Apple and Samsung. And of course it's smartphones are not good than them but it prices it's smartphones more or less same to their prices. So this is another reason for low sales of htc phones. And now HTC has unveiled another smartphone in it's mid range segment that is HTC One X10. So without wasting further time let's see some of the specs of the phone.

Size: 5.5 icnh
Display: Super LCD capacitive touchscreen
Resolution: Full HD 1080*1920 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass
Chipset: Mediatek Helio P10 chipset
GPU: Mali-T860MP2
OS: Android OS v6.0, Marshmallow
Primary: 16MP with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, autofocus, dual LED(dual tone) flash
Video: 2160p @30fps
Secondary: 8MP
Sensors: Fingerprint, Gyro, Proximity, Accelerometer, Compass
Battery: Non-removable 4000mah battery
Weight: 175 grams
USB: micro USB v2.0
3.5 mm jack: Yes
SD card: Yes upto 2TB
So this is a mid range smartphone by HTC. So let's see how is this smartphone and is it a worth buying smartphone or not.

HTC One X10 has a 5.5 inch full HD display. The display is Super LCD type and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass on front. HTC One X10 has full metal body which looks like other flagship phones from HTC from the pictures. So the built quality of the device will be really good as all other phones of htc always have some solid type of design. But in this the company has provided fingerprint sensor at the back. So the design of the smartphone will be really good and premium.

HTC One X10 has a 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, autofocus and dual LED dual tone flash. It can record videos upto 2160p @ 30fps. It has a 8MP secondary camera. The camera department of this phone should be good as it is having Optical Image Stabilization which is missing in many phones priced like this these days. The camera will be very good in good lightening conditions but in low lightening conditions the shots can be noisy due to small sensor size of the rear camera. But the photos can also be good in low lightening conditions too because I am just telling by seeing the specs.

HTC One X10 is powered by Mediatek Helio P10 chipset which is based on octa core processor with four cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.8GHz and the other four cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1GHz each. The phone will be good in general performance. There won't be any issues and lags in day to day usage of the device. For graphics the phone is powered by Mali-T860MP2 GPU. The phone will be good in general usage but when it moves to high graphic intensive tasks like playing heavy games such as Asphalt 8, Nova 3, Gangster Vegas and many more, the phone can have minor lags and frame drops here and there. But all things depend upon optimization these days, if htc has optimized it nicely it can perform better too.

HTC One X10 is powered by 4000 mah battery, so there won't be any issue regarding the battery life of the phone. According to me the phone's battery can easily last for a full day with a single full charge. But there is no fast charging in this device so it may take time to charge the phone. Also the company is powering some boost+ feature in this phone. In this feature the phone itself optimizes the phone and increases the performance according the current task running. It helps in reducing the power consumption of the device and further prolongs the running time.

The sound output of the device will be very good, as it is having Dolby atmos technology. So the sound of the device will give a more real feel. The phone still comes with Android Marshmallow v6.0. Now every device in the market is launching with Android Nougat but it is still powered by Android marshmallow.

The device is having all the basic sensors such as fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass. Also this is having a dedicated memory card slot through which memory can be expandable upto 2TB.

HTC One X10 is priced at something around 23000 INR and it will be available in Russia right now. The company didn't mention anything about the global availability of the device. HTC has done a good job with the device. It is priced quite aggressively not like other phones from htc. But HTC should have used a better chip on this device because Helio P10 is not enough to do all the tasks alone. Also the company should power this up with Android Nougat. Overall the phone is good and can be considered to buy, but it isn't available in India. Maybe it will launch in India in the coming days.

Sony Xperia XA1

Sony Xperia XA1
Sony unveiled some of it's smartphones at MWC this year that includes two Z series smartphones and two A series smartphones. Sony earlier launched XZs smartphone in India which is the first smartphone to have Snapdragon 835 chipset and is priced at 49990 INR. And now it's time for a mid ranger that is Sony Xperia XA1. Sony has launched Sony Xperia XA1 smartphone in India this week in mid range segment. The phone is priced at 19990 INR. At MWC this year Sony also unveiled a smartphone along Sony Xperia XA1 that is Xperia XA1 Ultra which is having a massive screen size of 6 inch. But this time, Sony didn't mention anything about the bigger sibling of the smartphone. So without wasting further time let's discuss some of the specs of the phone.
Size: 5 icnh
Display: IPS LCD type display
Resolution: 1080*1920 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass
Weight: 143 grams
SIM: Dual Sim (Nano)
Processor: Mediatek Helio P20 chipset
GPU: Mali-T880MP2
Operating System: Android Nougat, v7.0
Primary: 23MP with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection and laser  autofocus, LED flash, 1/2.3" sensor size
Video: 1080p@ 30fps
Secondary: 8MP with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus, 1/4" sensor size
Sensors: Accelerometer, proximity, compass
Battery: Non removable 2300 mah battery
Internal storage: 32 GB with 3GB RAM
USB: USB Type-C reversible 2.0 connector
3.5 mm jack: Yes
Micro SD: Yes dedicated slot expandable upto 256GB

The design of the phone is more or less similar to it's predecessors. The phone is a really compact size phone with 5 inch screen size. It can easily fit in one hand and is easy to use with one hand. The phone has a thickness of 8mm and has 143 grams weight. It has full metallic body which makes the phone really premium. On front it has 5 inch IPS LCD display which has just HD resolution. The display has very thin side bezels but on bottom the bezels are quite noticeable. At this price point putting just 720p display is not good idea in a phone which costs around 20000 INR. Overall the build quality of the phone is good. The phone feels really solid in hand. Also it is a compact size phone.

Sony Xperia XA1 is powered by Mediatek Helio P20 chipset which is successor to Helio P10 chipset. Helio P20 is based on octa core processor with four Cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 2.3 GHz and other four cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.6 GHz. For graphics the device is powered by MaliT880MP2 GPU. The general performance of the device will be good. There won't be any lags in normal day to day usage of the phone. But when it comes to heavy tasks like playing games, I think the device can face issues because the chipset's predecessor was also having some issues with heavy gaming. MaliT880 is somewhat week than Adreno GPU's. But there won't be any issues while playing casual games on the device. Sony should go with Snapdragon chipset for it's mid range phones they are simply better than Mediatek chipset.

The camera can be the strong point of the device because we usually see that Sony phones are equipped with good cameras. Also the company is touting very much about it's camera. Sony Xperia XA1 is having a 23MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus and LED flash. The sensor size of the camera is 1/2.3" size. It can record videos upto only Full HD at 30fps. It should also have 4K video recording just like Sony Xperia XZs. The autofocus of the phone should be really fast as it is a combination of phase detection autofocus and laser autofocus. The camera app of the phone can be opened in just 0.6 seconds. Also the shutter speed of the camera is really fast. Also the company has done something with the camera by which it can have very still shots. But the device lacks Optical Image Stabilization at this price.
The device is having a 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. The camera of the device should be good as Sony has put many features in it's phone's camera.

Operating System

Sony Xperia XA1 comes with Android Nougat, v7.0 out of the box. It is one of the rear phones which comes with android nougat.

Battery life

Sony Xperia XA1 has just 2300 mah battery. So battery life of the device will be very basic. According to me it won't even last for a full day, there will be some need of charging the phone in between the day. 2300 mah battery is very hardly seen on any of android smartphone, because the capacity is very low. Also nowadays we usually see smartphones having batteries above 3500 mah, also these days even a phone which costs 7000 INR have a 4000 mah battery. Then how can you expect that a smartphone which costs 20000 INR have just 2300 mah battery. But to slightly suppress this problem Sony is giving Mediatek's Pump Express 2.0 charging which charges phone very fast.

Missing fingerprint sensor

Sony Xperia XA1 is missing one of the basic sensors that is fingerprint scanner which is seen in every smartphone these days. Missing fingerprint scanner at the price of 20000 INR is a little bit indigested thing because as we know that these days even budget smartphones which costs 10000 INR has this feature. So not including fingerprint scanner is not a good idea in a mid ranger phone.

Final Verdict

Sony Xperia XA1 is available to buy from offline as well as online mode. The device is priced at 19990 INR. At this price the phone is totally waste of money because this phone cuts on many features. This is having just HD display, bad GPU and small battery. At this price this isn't having fingerprint scanner. Also this device is not having very good processor, we can have much better performed device at this price. The device is only having a good design and a good camera. Also I am not so much sure about the good camera performance, I am just telling what I think by seeing the specs of the camera. So Sony Xperia XA1 at this price is not at all worth buying phone. At this price a person can simply go for phones like Xiaomi mi 5, Leeco Le max 2 and Lenovo Z2 Plus which have much better performance than this. So Sony Xperia XA1 should be totally ignored.

Xiaomi mi 6 Rumours

Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi is a very prominent smartphone brand in the Chinese market. It has given us very good phones at very affordable rates than other companies. It launch smartphones of every type that are flagships, budget and mid rangers. But now it's time for Xiaomi's flagship phone. Last year we saw Xiaomi mi 5 which was also a flagship device from xiaomi. Then Xiaomi released Xiaomi mi 5s with dual rear camera system. And now it's time for yet another flagship phone from xiaomi that is Xiaomi mi 6. So xiaomi is all set to announce Xiaomi mi 6 on April 19 as xiaomi confirmed it today. So without wasting further time let's see some of the specs of the phone.

Actually xiaomi will launch two versions of it's new flagship that are Xiaomi mi 6 and Xiaomi mi 6 Plus. Xiaomi mi 6 will have 5.1 inch screen size while the plus variant will have 5.7 inch screen size. Xiaomi mi 6 is rumored to have a full HD resolution display while Xiaomi mi 6 plus is rumored to have a 2K resolution display.

Both the phones will have the same processor as that of Samsung galaxy S8 that is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset which is based on octa core processor with four kryo cores cloaked at 2.4 GHz and four kryo cores cloaked at 2.2 GHz. For graphics both the phones will be powers by Adreno 540 GPU.

Both the phones are rumored to have 12 MP rear camera which can record videos upto 4K. The secondary camera will be of of 8MP. The rear camera of the phone should be dual camera setup as we saw on Xiaomi mi 5s.
The phone will also have all the basic sensors that are accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, fingerprint, barometer. The phone is also rumored to have iris scanner which will make the unlocking of the phone much easier. Also the phone will have 3.5 mm jack. It will have USB Type-C charging port.

The phone will come in two memory options that are 64GB and 128GB with 4GB and 6GB RAM options respectively.
The battery life of the Xiaomi mi 5 was not good, it even doesn't last for a single day. So the battery life of Xiaomi mi 6 should have to be good. Also the phone supports fast charging.

So these are some of the details of Xiaomi's new flagship, Xiaomi mi 6 and mi 6 Plus. The company will launch the device on 19th of April in China. And after some time it will be available globally.

Moto G5

Moto G5

Last month Motorola launched it's Moto G5 plus smartphone in India. Actually Lenovo announced this Moto G5 plus at MWC 2017. But now it's time for the smaller sibling that is Moto G5. Lenovo launched only one version of Moto G5. Moto G5 is successor to the previous year launched Moto G4. The company launched only one version of the smartphone which has 16GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone is priced at 12000 INR and is exclusively available at Amazon to purchase. At this price it is in direct competition with Redmi Note 4. The phone has the same design like Moto G5 Plus with some differences here and there. So let's take a look at some of the specs of the device.

Size: 5.0 inch
Display: IPS LCD full HD display
Resolution: 1080*1920 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Processor: Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 chipset
GPU: Adreno 505
OS: Android OS, v7.0
Battery: removable 2800 mah battery
Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, fingerprint, compass
Weight: 145 grams
SIM: dual SIM
SD card: Dedicated slot expandable upto 128GB
Primary: 13MP with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, LED flash
Video: 1080p@ 30fps
Secondary: 5MP with f/2.2 aperture
3.5 mm jack: Yes

The design of the phone looks identical to Moto G5 plus but in smaller size. The device has full metal body, So it looks premium. The phone feels really solid in hand. The build quality of the phone is also really good. The phone has a size of 5.0 inch. So it is a really compact phone which easily fits in one hand. The device has a thickness of 9.5 mm and it weighs around 145 grams. So it is slightly on the thicker side. The phone has a fingerprint sensor at the front just like Moto G5 plus. It has microphone on right of fingerprint sensor. Also at front it has secondary camera and earpiece . On top it has 3.5 mm headphone jack. On right side it has power button and volume rockers. It has nothing on left side. At back it has 13MP rear camera. The phone also has removable back which packs a 2800 mah removable battery. By removing battery we can fit SIM's and micro SD card in their respective slots. The back is made of metal while frame is made of plastic. So overall the design of Moto G5 Plus is good.

Moto G5 has a 5 inch display. The display is IPS LCD type with full HD resolution. It has a resolution of 1080*1920 pixels with 441 pixel density. The screen is protected by corning gorilla glass 3. The display will be good on this device as company is using full HD display on a 5 inch screen size. So colors will come good on the display. Also sun light visibility of the display will also be good. Brightness levels should also be good. The phone is also easy to use with one hand due to it's compact size.

Moto G5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 chipset which is based on an octa core processor with eight cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.4 GHz. So the processing should be decent on this phone. Many other phones like redmi 3s prime and Lenovo K6 power also uses the same chipset and both the phones perform very well. There is no lag whatsoever while using the phone. So considering this Moto G5 should also perform well.
For better graphics the device is powered by Adreno 505 GPU, so it can also handle all the graphic intensive tasks without any issues. The phone can also easily play the heavy games like asphalt 8, nova 3, modern combat 5 and many more. So overall the device is having a good processor which can perform decent.

Operating System

The phone uses the same operating system as Moto G5 plus that is Android Nougat v7.0. So the operating system on the device will be very close to stock android. There won't be any extra bloatware on the phone. It also has special Moto features like Moto gestures and Moto actions like shake phone to on the torch and use the fingerprint sensor in place of navigational keys. It also has some features like split the screen and fit the screen for one hand usage. The OS will also be free from any lags and it should be really snappy just like it's predecessors. The phone will also receive Android latest updates very quickly as Motorola pushes updates very quickly in their phones. So the operating system of the phone is a very strong point, as many of the companies these days don't update their phones from time to time.

Moto G series is always equipped with good cameras, so let's see what is the case with Moto G5. Moto G5 is having a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. It can record only Full HD videos @ 30fps. The rear camera has the same rounded design as Moto G5 plus. The front camera on Moto G5 is 5MP with f/2.2 aperture. The camera app is really simple on the phone, it is really easy to use.

Battery life

Moto G5 plus is having a removable battery, which can be reached by removing the back cover. The capacity of the battery is 2800 mah. The battery capacity is 200mah less than Moto G5 Plus. But the battery capacity provided is less by seeing the current smartphone scenario in which we see smartphones having battery life of 4000 mah. The battery should last for a day otherwise there is no use. So the battery of Moto G5 may last for a day or may end up even before, it can only be revealed by using the phone. According to me the battery will be enough to last for a day as this one is having smaller display that is 5 inch. Moto G5 also supports fast charging so the battery can be quickly charged on it.

Fingerprint sensor

Moto G5 is having the same type of fingerprint sensor as that of Moto G5 Plus. The fingerprint sensor is front mounted at the bottom. It will be quick and responsive just like it's predecessors. It also has special functionality like swipe for apps changing, long press for task manager and single tap for just back. So we can use this fingerprint sensor in place of onscreen navigational keys.

Final Verdict

Moto G5 is priced at 12000 INR and is exclusively available on Amazon. Amazon prime members can also get 1000 off on the device. So by seeing the specs of the device we concluded that it is priced slightly higher than the phones having the same specs likes Lenovo K6 power and redmi 3s prime. But Motorola phones have their on glory, they have stock android, they get updates really faster, they have better cameras, they have Moto display and many more. Companies like Lenovo don't even provide any updates to their phones after three four months of launch of their phones. Also Motorola have a good brand name in the market and they also have better after service sales. So I think Moto G5 is a good buy at this price if you want stock android experience and faster updates.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus announcement

Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+

After so much rumors of Samsung's next flagship Samsung has actually announced the device that is Samsung S8 and S8+. Samsung usually announce it's flagship phone at MWC every year but this time Samsung has chosen to unveil it's flagship phone separately after MWC 2017. So in this I will tell my thoughts about the Samsung S8 and S8+. In these two smartphones S8 is the bigger one and S8+ is smaller one in screen size. So let's see some of the specs of the device. Basically there are very less differences between these two versions in specs.

Size: 5.8 inch for S8 and 6.2 inch for S8+
Display: QHD Super AMOLED display
Resolution: 1440*2960 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 5
Weight: 155 grams for S8 and 173 grams for S8+
Thickness: 8mm thickness
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895
GPU: Adreno 540 for Snapdragon 835
SIM: Single SIM or Dual SIM
OS: Android OS v7.0
Primary: 12 MP with f/1.7 aperture with phase detection autofocus, OIS, LED flash
Video: 2160p @ 30fps, 1080p @ 60fps
Secondary: 5 MP with f/1.7 aperture
Battery: 3000 mah for S8 and 3500 mah for S8+
USB: USB type-C port
Sensors: Fingerprint, iris scanner, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer, compass, heart rate, SpO2
Internal storage: 64GB
Card slot: Dedicated in Snapdragon varient while Hybrid in Exynos varient
3.5 mm jack: Yes

So above are the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The main feature about which the Samsung is mainly touting very much is the phone's display. Samsung S8 and S8+ come with infinity display which has very less bezels. The screen is mainly bezelless. It has the same edge display as that of it's previous flagship device that is Samsung S7 edge. Also to reduce the bottom bezels Samsung has removed the navigational keys on the bottom and instead of them it uses on screen navigational keys. Samsung has also removed the home key on s7 to reduce the bezels. By the way the display of S8 and S8+ is a super AMOLED QHD display with resolution 1440*2960 pixels resolution. It is the one of the phones in the market with HDR display. S8 has a screen size of 5.8 inch while S8+ has a screen size of 6.2 inch. Believe me the screen of Samsung S8 and S8+ looks super awesome, the phone looks very premium with less bezels. The screen of Samsung's new flagship is a main selling point of the device. On back the device again has a glass design which looks really premium. The device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on back as well as front. Samsung Galaxy S7 has the same glass design as that of S8, but the S7 is very slippery due to this it is also prone to cracks. So it will be interesting to see whether the company has eliminated this problem or not in it's latest flagship. But the build quality of the device is really awesome, the phone looks extremely premium. It has very cool design.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ come in two versions, one is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and the other is powered by Exynos 8895 chipset. Both these chipsets are based on 10nm architecture which will be very power efficient. Snapdragon 835 chipset is based on octa core processor with four kryo  cores cloaked at 2.35 GHz and the other four kryo cores cloaked at 1.9 GHz. Exynos 8895 chipset is also based on octa core processor with four cores cloaked at 2.3 GHz and the other four cloaked at 1.7 GHz. So the performance of the phone will be top notch as both of these processors are made for flagship devices. Actually not only Exynos 8895 chip but also Snapdragon 835 chip is made by Samsung itself. But probably in India we will only see Exynos version of the phone.

So let's take a look at the camera department. Samsung is using the same camera sensor as it used in Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge. It has the same 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus and OIS. But the secondary camera got a bump, now the phone is having a 8MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture. But the camera of S7 is also very good, it is one of the best camera phones in the smartphone market even now. So the camera of S8 will also be decent. But the company should enhance the camera sensor of it's latest flagship as it usually does with it's S series smartphones. All are expecting that Samsung will incorporate dual rear camera setup in S8 in which one sensor is simple color sensor and the other one is monochrome sensor, as many of the companies are doing in their smartphones these days. Even some of the mid rangers have dual rear camera setup. So Samsung should also apply this feature in their smartphones but even this camera is capable of performing good.

Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3000 mah battery while Samsung Galaxy S8+ has a 3500 mah battery. Battery is the department of which I am most scared of. Both of these phones have Super AMOLED QHD displays and the battery capacity of both the phones is less as should be there by seeing their screen size. Samsung Galaxy S7 is also having 3000 mah battery and it's battery lasts for a full day very hardly. At the end of the day there is a definite need of charging the phone. Samsung S7 is having a 5.1 inch QHD display. But the Samsung S8 is having 5.8 inch display and 3000 mah battery. So how Samsung S8's battery will last for a day as S7's battery last for a day very hardly with smaller screen size and same battery capacity. Same condition is there with S8+ and S7 edge. So this aspect of Samsung's new flagship is really doubtful. But who knows Samsung would have done some tricky thing with this S8/S8+ battery. But the device comes with quick charging. So fingers crossed, it will be really interesting to see for how long the battery of this device last.

The device is having 64GB of internal storage with 4GB of RAM. Samsung has chosen less amount of RAM for it's flagship while all other companies are also including 6GB RAM model in addition to 4GB RAM model. The main reason behind this may be smartphone's less amount of battery as more amount of RAM consumes more amount of battery. But 4GB RAM is also quite decent, there is also no complaint in RAM management of Samsung S7 which is also having 4GB of RAM.

The next new feature this time Samsung has powered in it's flagship device is it's personal assistant. This assistant is known as Bixby. This assistant is based on Artificial Intelligence concept. Samsung was touting very much about this assistant in it's event. Samsung has included a dedicated key to start this Bixby with one click. Bixby can also be opened by swiping the screen just like Google Now. So it will be really interesting to check this Bixby and see whether it is more intelligent than Google Assistant and Apple Siri.

The placement of the fingerprint sensor has changed, now it is placed in side of the rear camera. So the placement of the fingerprint sensor is quite awkward because we may hit the camera a lot in place of fingerprint sensor while touching it. So it will make the camera lens dirty from our hands which may make the photos noisy. So the placement of the fingerprint sensor is little weird. Samsung has also included other features to unlock the device such as iris scanner and facial recognition. So this will be also really interesting to see how these unlocking features work. So if these work properly, there may not be that much need to use fingerprint sensor a lot to unlock the device. Also the device is fully water and dust resistant just like it's predecessor.

So these are some of the features of Samsung's new flagships that are Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+. The price of the device is little higher this time. Samsung S8 will be priced around 60000 INR while S8+ will be priced around 70000 INR. The price is a little bit higher this time. So let's wait for the original price of the smartphone in India till 21st April, may be Samsung will price the phone at much aggressive price.
