Moto G5

Moto G5

Last month Motorola launched it's Moto G5 plus smartphone in India. Actually Lenovo announced this Moto G5 plus at MWC 2017. But now it's time for the smaller sibling that is Moto G5. Lenovo launched only one version of Moto G5. Moto G5 is successor to the previous year launched Moto G4. The company launched only one version of the smartphone which has 16GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone is priced at 12000 INR and is exclusively available at Amazon to purchase. At this price it is in direct competition with Redmi Note 4. The phone has the same design like Moto G5 Plus with some differences here and there. So let's take a look at some of the specs of the device.

Size: 5.0 inch
Display: IPS LCD full HD display
Resolution: 1080*1920 pixels
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Processor: Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 chipset
GPU: Adreno 505
OS: Android OS, v7.0
Battery: removable 2800 mah battery
Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, fingerprint, compass
Weight: 145 grams
SIM: dual SIM
SD card: Dedicated slot expandable upto 128GB

Video: 1080p@ 30fps
Secondary: 5MP with f/2.2 aperture
3.5 mm jack: Yes

The design of the phone looks identical to Moto G5 plus but in smaller size. The device has full metal body, So it looks premium. The phone feels really solid in hand. The build quality of the phone is also really good. The phone has a size of 5.0 inch. So it is a really compact phone which easily fits in one hand. The device has a thickness of 9.5 mm and it weighs around 145 grams. So it is slightly on the thicker side. The phone has a fingerprint sensor at the front just like Moto G5 plus. It has microphone on right of fingerprint sensor. Also at front it has secondary camera and earpiece . On top it has 3.5 mm headphone jack. On right side it has power button and volume rockers. It has nothing on left side. At back it has 13MP rear camera. The phone also has removable back which packs a 2800 mah removable battery. By removing battery we can fit SIM's and micro SD card in their respective slots. The back is made of metal while frame is made of plastic. So overall the design of Moto G5 Plus is good.

Moto G5 has a 5 inch display. The display is IPS LCD type with full HD resolution. It has a resolution of 1080*1920 pixels with 441 pixel density. The screen is protected by corning gorilla glass 3. The display will be good on this device as company is using full HD display on a 5 inch screen size. So colors will come good on the display. Also sun light visibility of the display will also be good. Brightness levels should also be good. The phone is also easy to use with one hand due to it's compact size.

Moto G5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 chipset which is based on an octa core processor with eight cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.4 GHz. So the processing should be decent on this phone. Many other phones like redmi 3s prime and Lenovo K6 power also uses the same chipset and both the phones perform very well. There is no lag whatsoever while using the phone. So considering this Moto G5 should also perform well.
For better graphics the device is powered by Adreno 505 GPU, so it can also handle all the graphic intensive tasks without any issues. The phone can also easily play the heavy games like asphalt 8, nova 3, modern combat 5 and many more. So overall the device is having a good processor which can perform decent.

Operating System

The phone uses the same operating system as Moto G5 plus that is Android Nougat v7.0. So the operating system on the device will be very close to stock android. There won't be any extra bloatware on the phone. It also has special Moto features like Moto gestures and Moto actions like shake phone to on the torch and use the fingerprint sensor in place of navigational keys. It also has some features like split the screen and fit the screen for one hand usage. The OS will also be free from any lags and it should be really snappy just like it's predecessors. The phone will also receive Android latest updates very quickly as Motorola pushes updates very quickly in their phones. So the operating system of the phone is a very strong point, as many of the companies these days don't update their phones from time to time.

Moto G series is always equipped with good cameras, so let's see what is the case with Moto G5. Moto G5 is having a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. It can record only Full HD videos @ 30fps. The rear camera has the same rounded design as Moto G5 plus. The front camera on Moto G5 is 5MP with f/2.2 aperture. The camera app is really simple on the phone, it is really easy to use.

Battery life

Moto G5 plus is having a removable battery, which can be reached by removing the back cover. The capacity of the battery is 2800 mah. The battery capacity is 200mah less than Moto G5 Plus. But the battery capacity provided is less by seeing the current smartphone scenario in which we see smartphones having battery life of 4000 mah. The battery should last for a day otherwise there is no use. So the battery of Moto G5 may last for a day or may end up even before, it can only be revealed by using the phone. According to me the battery will be enough to last for a day as this one is having smaller display that is 5 inch. Moto G5 also supports fast charging so the battery can be quickly charged on it.

Fingerprint sensor

Moto G5 is having the same type of fingerprint sensor as that of Moto G5 Plus. The fingerprint sensor is front mounted at the bottom. It will be quick and responsive just like it's predecessors. It also has special functionality like swipe for apps changing, long press for task manager and single tap for just back. So we can use this fingerprint sensor in place of onscreen navigational keys.

Final Verdict

Moto G5 is priced at 12000 INR and is exclusively available on Amazon. Amazon prime members can also get 1000 off on the device. So by seeing the specs of the device we concluded that it is priced slightly higher than the phones having the same specs likes Lenovo K6 power and redmi 3s prime. But Motorola phones have their on glory, they have stock android, they get updates really faster, they have better cameras, they have Moto display and many more. Companies like Lenovo don't even provide any updates to their phones after three four months of launch of their phones. Also Motorola have a good brand name in the market and they also have better after service sales. So I think Moto G5 is a good buy at this price if you want stock android experience and faster updates.
