Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+

After so much rumors of Samsung's next flagship Samsung has actually announced the device that is Samsung S8 and S8+. Samsung usually announce it's flagship phone at MWC every year but this time Samsung has chosen to unveil it's flagship phone separately after MWC 2017. So in this I will tell my thoughts about the Samsung S8 and S8+. In these two smartphones S8 is the bigger one and S8+ is smaller one in screen size. So let's see some of the specs of the device. Basically there are very less differences between these two versions in specs.

So above are the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The main feature about which the Samsung is mainly touting very much is the phone's display. Samsung S8 and S8+ come with infinity display which has very less bezels. The screen is mainly bezelless. It has the same edge display as that of it's previous flagship device that is Samsung S7 edge. Also to reduce the bottom bezels Samsung has removed the navigational keys on the bottom and instead of them it uses on screen navigational keys. Samsung has also removed the home key on s7 to reduce the bezels. By the way the display of S8 and S8+ is a super AMOLED QHD display with resolution 1440*2960 pixels resolution. It is the one of the phones in the market with HDR display. S8 has a screen size of 5.8 inch while S8+ has a screen size of 6.2 inch. Believe me the screen of Samsung S8 and S8+ looks super awesome, the phone looks very premium with less bezels. The screen of Samsung's new flagship is a main selling point of the device. On back the device again has a glass design which looks really premium. The device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on back as well as front. Samsung Galaxy S7 has the same glass design as that of S8, but the S7 is very slippery due to this it is also prone to cracks. So it will be interesting to see whether the company has eliminated this problem or not in it's latest flagship. But the build quality of the device is really awesome, the phone looks extremely premium. It has very cool design.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ come in two versions, one is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and the other is powered by Exynos 8895 chipset. Both these chipsets are based on 10nm architecture which will be very power efficient. Snapdragon 835 chipset is based on octa core processor with four kryo  cores cloaked at 2.35 GHz and the other four kryo cores cloaked at 1.9 GHz. Exynos 8895 chipset is also based on octa core processor with four cores cloaked at 2.3 GHz and the other four cloaked at 1.7 GHz. So the performance of the phone will be top notch as both of these processors are made for flagship devices. Actually not only Exynos 8895 chip but also Snapdragon 835 chip is made by Samsung itself. But probably in India we will only see Exynos version of the phone.

So let's take a look at the camera department. Samsung is using the same camera sensor as it used in Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge. It has the same 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus and OIS. But the secondary camera got a bump, now the phone is having a 8MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture. But the camera of S7 is also very good, it is one of the best camera phones in the smartphone market even now. So the camera of S8 will also be decent. But the company should enhance the camera sensor of it's latest flagship as it usually does with it's S series smartphones. All are expecting that Samsung will incorporate dual rear camera setup in S8 in which one sensor is simple color sensor and the other one is monochrome sensor, as many of the companies are doing in their smartphones these days. Even some of the mid rangers have dual rear camera setup. So Samsung should also apply this feature in their smartphones but even this camera is capable of performing good.

Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3000 mah battery while Samsung Galaxy S8+ has a 3500 mah battery. Battery is the department of which I am most scared of. Both of these phones have Super AMOLED QHD displays and the battery capacity of both the phones is less as should be there by seeing their screen size. Samsung Galaxy S7 is also having 3000 mah battery and it's battery lasts for a full day very hardly. At the end of the day there is a definite need of charging the phone. Samsung S7 is having a 5.1 inch QHD display. But the Samsung S8 is having 5.8 inch display and 3000 mah battery. So how Samsung S8's battery will last for a day as S7's battery last for a day very hardly with smaller screen size and same battery capacity. Same condition is there with S8+ and S7 edge. So this aspect of Samsung's new flagship is really doubtful. But who knows Samsung would have done some tricky thing with this S8/S8+ battery. But the device comes with quick charging. So fingers crossed, it will be really interesting to see for how long the battery of this device last.

The device is having 64GB of internal storage with 4GB of RAM. Samsung has chosen less amount of RAM for it's flagship while all other companies are also including 6GB RAM model in addition to 4GB RAM model. The main reason behind this may be smartphone's less amount of battery as more amount of RAM consumes more amount of battery. But 4GB RAM is also quite decent, there is also no complaint in RAM management of Samsung S7 which is also having 4GB of RAM.

The next new feature this time Samsung has powered in it's flagship device is it's personal assistant. This assistant is known as Bixby. This assistant is based on Artificial Intelligence concept. Samsung was touting very much about this assistant in it's event. Samsung has included a dedicated key to start this Bixby with one click. Bixby can also be opened by swiping the screen just like Google Now. So it will be really interesting to check this Bixby and see whether it is more intelligent than Google Assistant and Apple Siri.

The placement of the fingerprint sensor has changed, now it is placed in side of the rear camera. So the placement of the fingerprint sensor is quite awkward because we may hit the camera a lot in place of fingerprint sensor while touching it. So it will make the camera lens dirty from our hands which may make the photos noisy. So the placement of the fingerprint sensor is little weird. Samsung has also included other features to unlock the device such as iris scanner and facial recognition. So this will be also really interesting to see how these unlocking features work. So if these work properly, there may not be that much need to use fingerprint sensor a lot to unlock the device. Also the device is fully water and dust resistant just like it's predecessor.

So these are some of the features of Samsung's new flagships that are Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+. The price of the device is little higher this time. Samsung S8 will be priced around 60000 INR while S8+ will be priced around 70000 INR. The price is a little bit higher this time. So let's wait for the original price of the smartphone in India till 21st April, may be Samsung will price the phone at much aggressive price.
