14nm, 10nm or 7nm: What deos it mean in a SOC architeture?

We all use phones a lot these days that it has become a very important component in our life. These phones are just like our small computers but with smaller screen and less performance. Just like computer's processor these phones have small chips known as SOCs. These SOCs are built on certain architecture. So what does this architecture mean with respect to these SOCs. This is the thing which we are going to discuss in this article.
 
As the name implies architecture mean the engineering design of the SOC. SOC stands for System on Chip. This chipset is made up of Integrated Circuits. Integrated Circuit is a set of electronic circuits on flat piece. Integrated circuit is made up of integration of large number tiny transistors on a small chip. Transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power.
 
 
Now we must have heard of various SOCs built on that much nanometer architecture. So what does this term nanometer actually mean? This nanometer tells us the size of these tiny transistors which are used on the chip. We must have heard various chips with their respective nanometer architecture. We have also seen that these nanometers count is decreasing with the new chipsets coming. So why?
 
The explanation to this is that smaller transistor sizes are more power efficient. Not only the power it's performance will also be good. As transistors get tinier and tightly packed the electrons don't have to travel so far while moving between them. This results in saving of both time and energy. So as time  reduces the processor can do tasks quickly thus improving the performance. And as energy consumption reduces more power efficient will be the phone and hence the battery life of the phone will be better. That's why companies like QUALCOMM and Samsung are manufacturing chipsets with less nanometer count these days for smartphones. The latest chipsets Exynos 9810 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 are both built on 7nm architecture.

LG G7+: A True Flagship just at 40000 INR or $570

 LG was among one of the most prominent smartphone brands to produce really good flagship phones or other phones as well earlier. But from last few years it's sales have gone really bad. This is due to better smartphone alternatives in the market such as Samsung, Apple and even OnePlus. So from last few years LG's smartphone hasn't gained much profit. But it doesn't mean that their phones are not good. The thing is that there is not much innovation in their phones. Also LG always price it's smartphones as equivalent to Samsung or other premium smartphone brands. So people prefer other brands over LG because they got everything right in their bucket.
 
But this time LG has understood it's position in market and has priced it's new flagship phone very aggressively here in India. LG G7+ ThinQ is the successor to last year's flagship LG G6. LG has priced this phone at 40000 INR here in India which translates to around $570. The pricing is really insane for a flagship smartphone, so let's see, Is this smartphone worth it's pricing or not.

 The design of LG G7 ThinQ is same as many other  smartphones these days that is Notch display. There is a notch at front on top of the phone. This notch houses the ear piece and other sensors such as proximity and it also houses the front camera. There is a 6.1" tall screen on front. This display is an IPS LCD type display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5  on front. This display is a 2K resolution display. There is also an option to hide this notch in the software. At back, glass is used which gives a premium build to this phone. The back is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The build quality of this phone is really good.
 
Performance
 
The performance of this phone is really good. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset which is the top end chipset by Qualcomm this year. For better graphics there is Adreno 630 GPU so the phone will be able to handle all the graphic intensive tasks very smoothly. The performance of this phone will be really good. As it is powered by best android phone powered chipset.
 
Camera

 
 LG flagship phones are always famous for their camera quality so the legacy will be maintained with this phone as well. LG G7+ ThinQ is having a dual camera setup at back that is 16MP,f/1.6,30mm + 16MP,f/1.9,16mm. Here first one is a normal lens while other one is a wide angle lens. Wide angle lens is really helpful in capturing very cool wide angle pics. This camera supports Laser as well as phase detection autofocus for better focusing. Also there is OIS for better stabilization of camera. It can capture videos upto 2160p @30fps. It can only record slomo videos in 240fps which is a little bit disappointing. But for video recording there is a full fledged manual mode provided which is amazing and will be really loved by camera lovers.
 
On front there is an 8MP,f/1.9 lens for selfies. This camera also has portrait mode for background blur. This can capture videos upto 1080p @60fps.
 
User interface

 
 LG G7 ThinQ is powered by LG UX custom UI which is based on Android Oreo 8.0. User Interface is the thing for which LG phones are not famous for. Many of the users around the world think that LG UX is quite cumbersome. It seems to be little bit outdated. There are lot of customizations we can do. But the experience of the UI is good, it runs smooth. There are no lags and the performance is good. But LG is also really slow for it's software updates. So this device is promised Android P update but it will come really late if we see the previous record of LG.
 
Sound
 
LG presents this smartphone as a multimedia smartphone so the audio output of the phone should be really good. The phone is having just single speaker at the bottom, instead of going with stereo speaker setup. This has an echo chamber which helps in amplifying the speaker's sound when placed on a hard surface. So this is really cool as sound bounces back when it hits the hard surface and the sound amplify in this way. As it has a 3.5 mm jack, it has HI FI quad dac which really enhances the sound output when connected thorough a high quality headphone.
 
Battery

 
 LG G7+ comes with a 3000 mah battery. The battery life of the smartphone will be good because the chipset used on this is really power efficient. It comes with a fast charger within the box that is a 9V,1.9A charger. Also this phone supports wireless charging which is a good thing as most of the phones in this price generally don't have wireless charging. This comes with USB Type-C port for charging.

Other Features

LG G7+ ThinQ comes with IP68 rating so it is dustproof as well as waterproof. Mostly phones at this price doesn't come with any such certification. It comes with face recognition as well as fingerprint scanner for unlocking the phone. The phone comes in 128GB internal storage and 6GB of RAM so there won't be any RAM management issues in this smartphone. It also has all the sensors which is a good thing.

Final Conclusion


LG G7+ ThinQ is a really great smartphone at the price. It is priced at just 40000 INR or $570 which is pretty low for a flagship device. At this price it directly competes with OnePlus 6. OnePlus 6 is priced at 35000 INR for 6,64GB model and 40000 INR for 8,128GB model. If you want a true flagship from a reputed brand you can simply go for LG G7+ ThinQ.

Cheapest Phone running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

 Xiaomi is a Chinese brand which is known for producing really good value for money phones. It has come up with a lot of super hit phones like Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Xioami Mi A1 and many more. It is also the first company to launch a phone with bezeless screen that is Xioami Mi mix. Xioami is also known for producing some of the good flagships at a very affordable price. But most of it's flagship phones never made it to Indian market.

 
 Two days back Xioami launched a new flagship phone under it's new smartphone sub brand that is Poco. The phone is known as Pocophone F1. It's the first phone under new brand Poco and Xioami introduced Poco's first phone here in India. The most interesting thing is it's pricing and it's super cool features. It is the cheapest phone to be powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 845 chipset in the market. So let's see what makes this phone so special.


 Pocophone comes with the same notch design with which all other phones are coming these days. But here bezels are a little bit thicker than most of those phones. It has a screen size of 6.18" which is an IPS LCD display. This display has a resolution of 1080*2246 pixels. The aspect ratio of the display is 18.7:9. For protection there is Corning Gorilla Glass on front. But there is one annoying thing with this phone's design. It comes with a polycarbonate back or you can say plastic.

 
 Launching a phone with a plastic back in 2018 is a little bit disappointing as these days most of the phones are coming with a metal back or a glass back which gives premium look to the phone. But there is one more edition of this phone which comes with a Kevlar back but this is only avialble in 8GB RAM model. This Kevlar back is much better than plastic back. The phone comes in four colors that are Graphite Black, Steel Blue, Russo Red and Armored edition with Kevlar back. 


 Now take a look at the hardware of the device. It comes with the Qualcomm top lineup flagship chipset that is Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. The chipset contains eight cores among which four kryo cores cloaked at 2.8GHz and the other four kryo cores cloaked at 1.8GHz. For better graphics there is Adreno 630 GPU. This chipset also powers some of the other flagships of this year such as OnePlus 6, Samsung S9, Samsung Note 9 and many more. The chipset is the most highlighting point of this device as we generally don't see phones with this chipset in this price segment.


It comes with MIUI 9.6 out of the box which is based on Android 8.1 (Oreo). But the User Interface is slightly different than other MIUI devices. Mainly there is difference in launcher of the device as it comes with typical Poco Launcher. Now it has a app drawer which is generally missing on other MIUI devices. This Launcher will be available to any android device and will be downloaded from Play Store.


Pocophone F1 has a dual camera setup at back. The primary lens is Sony's IMX363 sesnor. It is a 12MP lens with f/1.9 aperture size and a pixel size of 1.4µm. But there is no OIS in the main camera. The secondary lens is just a 5MP shooter and it is only for depth sensing. The front camera is a 20MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture.

The phone comes with 4000 mah of battery. It has USB Type-C port for powering the battery. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charging 3.0. So it comes with a fast charging supplying 18W in the box. Also it comes with hybrid SIM slot so that you can increase the storage via micro SD. Also it has a 3.5 mm jack and it's earpiece also doubles as a speaker. So it gives more immersive sound with this Stereo speaker setup. It comes with IR camera which will help in unlocking the phone via face recognition.


The phone comes in three memory configuration that are 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB. Among these only 8GB RAM model comes with cool Kevlar back. The 6GB,64GB model is priced at 21000 INR or $300, 6GB,128GB at 24000 INR or $340 and 256GB model at 30000 INR or $430. Xiaomi has got the pricing right for this smartphone let's see how it performs in the market. The phone will avialble from 29th August on Flipkart in India. There is no word on the global availability of the device. At this price it is in direct competition with Huawei Honor Play which comes with Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset and is priced at 20000 INR for the base variant.

So how Good is Samsung Dex?

Phones are getting a lot advanced year by year. Each year many new innovations are coming in phones. One such innovation is using your phone as a desktop. This is known as docking your phone with some special device. In last few years many companies have tried to this but none succeeded. But with the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8, company introduced Samsung Dex Pad which can be connected to a monitor. With it's help a new interface opens up in the monitor which has a desktop interface. All other flagship devices after Samsung S8 supports this. And with each flagship device there is some change in the design of this Dex station. A few days back Samsung launched Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in which this Dex stuff changed totally.

 
 So Samsung Dex firstly came up with Samsung Galaxy S8. This pad is in circular shape where you can place your phone tilted to an angle with vertical. In this there was a Samsung Dex pad which has USB Type-C dock where we have to place our phone and put it in the slot. Behind it there is a HDMI port to connect it with monitor. And there are two USB ports for connecting keyboard and mouse. There is also an Ethernet port. There is a USB Type-C port for charging the phone as well as powering the device. This Dex pad has a special design as to dissipate heat generated in the phone when placed on the pad.  

 
With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ they came up with a new Dex station. This new Dex station is in the shape of rectangle. Here we can put our phone horizontally with it's screen facing us by putting it in the USB Type-C dock. As the device is now horizontal we can use it as a mouse and navigate the cursor with our finger on our phone's screen. This time there is not any Ethernet port on Samsung Dex station. All other ports are still there like HDMI, USB and Type-C.


But with the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 9, company has totally changed the game. Now you don't need any Dex pad or Dex station, you just need a HDMI to USB Type-C connector. Just connect your phone to the Type-C port and the HDMI port to the monitor. You don't need any extra pad or station for connection. But now you must be wondering that how to connect any extra mouse or keyboard. For this Samsung is also supplying a multi port connecter which also includes USB ports to connect keyboard and mouse but if you don't want to purchase this you can simply use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.


When we connect our phone to Samsung Dex it takes maximum performance from the chipset as it is a heavy task and tends to increase the temperature of the device. That's why in earlier Samsung Dex there is a specific Dex pad or station which is specially designed to dissipate heat generated in phone. But with Samsung Note 9 there is no such thing, we already have a carbon cooling technology which keeps the phone cool. So with this phone we don't need any special pad or station.


Now we have talked a lot about the design of different Samsung Dex pad or station now it's time to take a look at the interface of the Samsung Dex as a desktop. We can run all apps which are installed on our phone on Samsung Dex which open up with different windows. There is an app drawer in the interface which contains all the apps. We can also place apps on the desktop as well. There is also a taskbar at the bottom which shows all the apps running. Also we can resize the different windows but not with all the apps. On the right side at the bottom there is notification bar, battery percent and lot of other stuff like available networks and Bluetooth.


The performance of the Dex is also good. It opens up apps quickly and they work fine as well. You can also play games on Dex which are installed on your device. And that too work fine there are no lags and game play is smooth. But there is one problem in playing games that is you can't play it in full screen. The size of window is always less than the full screen. But still the game play is smooth. You can also connect any special gamepad with it like remote or joystick to play games easily. And with one and a half year of Samsung dex there is not much change in the Interface of Samsung Dex. But if you want to do heavy tasks on this Samsung Dex then it's not for you. It's good for running all the android apps on a bigger screen but you can't do all the tasks on it which you can do on a PC or MacBook. Don't expect any miraculous performance from this Samsung Dex.

Here is all what S pen in Samsung Galaxy Note 9 can do

 You must have heard about the famous flagship series from Samsung that is Note series. Samsung Galaxy Note phones are always famous for their stylus known as S-Pen. Last week Samsung launched it's new phone in Note series that is Samsung Galaxy Note 9. With every series of Note smartphone their is some change in the S-Pen. So let's see what are the changes with this new S-pen.
S-pen is a small stylus in the shape of the pen which can be put in the phone in it's slot provided downside the phone. This can be used to use the phone in case you don't want to use it with your hand. It can do all the tasks which you can do with your hand. Earlier this was developed only for this purpose but later on a lot of functionalities are added to it. This S-pen on Note 9 is the best S-pen till now and probably the best stylus available in the market.

 The most interesting feature this time is that S-pen comes with Bluetooth connectivity. So it can be now connected to phone via Bluetooth. This is helpful in many ways. This can be used as a Bluetooth remote. It has a small battery inside which takes power from the phone itself. This battery will last for about half an hour after which you have to put it back inside in it's slot and battery can be charged to 100% in just 40 seconds after which you can use it again for half an hour. This S-pen has a small button on it which helps to use it as a remote.

With this Bluetooth implementation there are various things which you can do. You can setup any app to open up with a long press of this button. We can take photos with this button with just one click and double tap to change the camera from front to back or vice versa. We can also use this button in a presentation to change the slides with it's click. We can also use it in gallery to change photos. We can use this button to play or pause videos. This is helpful when we are streaming the videos on a bigger screen. So these are mainly all the tasks which we can do with this button on S-pen.


The most common thing which you can do with this S-pen is note down notes on your phone. This is the most basic feature which is avialble on these phones from a long time. There is quick note app which comes preinstalled in the phone where you can note down something. To launch it just hold the button on S-pen and double tap the screen anywhere, it will directly launch the quick note.


Next thing which we can do with this S-pen is drawing. This is really helpful in creating artistic things. There is a dedicated app which comes with this phone in which we can see all the users who draw something creative using S-pen on their Note devices. We can also post our creative work on this app. We can follow those persons as well many others can also follow us. So it's really good feature provided by Samsung in their Note devices.  

This year Samsung has presented something new with it's S-pen like Bluetooth integration. This is called innovation. Earlier S-pen was only included as a simple plastic stylus to use with the phone where you can write, draw or use it just normally to use the phone. But now you can use it as a remote which is really good. For this we have to really appreciate R&D department of Samsung.

is Samsung Galaxy Note 9 a worth buying smartphone?

Samsung has already launched Samsung Galaxy Note 9 last week and it's time to see whether it's a good deal to buy this smartphone or not. Samsung Note 9 is the eighth phone of the series as company skips on number 6. Samsung Galaxy Note series is a very famous phone series all around the world due to it's unique stylus provided with the phone. This stylus is included from the very first phone in the series that is Samsung Galaxy Note but it has undergone a lot of changes from one generation to other.


Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is having the same design as that of Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The design is not exactly same but they look very identical. It is having the same glass back with metallic frame on sides. The back is protected by corning gorilla glass. On front this time it has a 6.4 inch tall screen while Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has 6.3" screen. This is the only difference between both of the phone's screen while the display is exactly same on both that is a 2K resolution AMOLED panel. The bezels on this phone are also very slim that's why the aspect ratio of the display is 18.5:9. The screen on front is curved due to 3D glass used. It doesn't go with the notch design which many of the companies are following these days while it goes with it's traditional design that is a single plate on top which houses ear piece, front camera and other sensors. But it depends on personal preference whether you like notch or not.
 
 
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset. This chipset also powers Samsung's previous flagship device that is Samsung S9/S9+. So we already know about the performance of this chipset that is awesome. This is also used on some other flagships that are Oneplus 6 and LG G7 ThinQ. Snapdragon 845 is company's top notch chip for flagships. So it provides fast performance in the device. For specs this chipset is based on octa core processor with four Kryo cores cloaked at 2.7GHz each and other four Kryo cores cloaked at 1.7GHz each. For better graphics this is powered by Adreno 630 GPU. So the phone will handle gaming and other graphic intensive tasks very smoothly. There is one more version of this phone which comes with Exynos 9810. This is Samsung's self made chip for it's flagship devices so the performance of this chip will also be top notch. This chipset is also based on octa core processor with four Mongoose M3 cores cloaked at 2.7 GHz each and other four cortex A-55 cores cloaked at 1.8 GHz each. For graphics there is Mali G72-MP18 GPU.

These two chipsets are among the fastest chips for smartphone in the market. So you shouldn't worry about the performance of the device. The performance of the device will be really fast. They will be able to do each and every task thrown to them smoothly whether it is gaming or rendering video, opening apps quickly or keeping them in memory. Both the chipsets are built on Samsung's 10nm FinFET. So the power consumption of the device will also be very low which will result in better battery life.
 
 
Now take a look at the camera of the device. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is having exactly same camera setup as that present on Samsung Galaxy S9+. So the camera performance on the device will be really good. It has a dual camera setup at the back with 12MP,f/1.5-2.4 + 12MP,f/2.4 shooter. In this second one is a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. This is the second phone after Samsung s9+ to have a variable aperture which can change between f/2.4 to f/1.5 depending on the amount of light available in the scene. It can also detect itself the amount of light and can change aperture size itself. This camera can also record super slomo videos at 960 fps just like s9+. The camera can record videos upto 2160p @60fps. There is also support for OIS for better stability of the camera.

At front it has a secondary camera of 8MP,f/1.7. This lens has a very large aperture so the low lighting photos will be really good with this. This camera can record videos upto 1440p @30fps.
 
 
The main specification of this phone is it's stylus which comes with it. This time there are some changes in the stylus as well. It can do all the tasks which it can do in last years note device. You can write down notes, send written messages and also can draw on phone and apply your creativity to it. You can also trace out cutting with this stylus. This time this stylus comes with Bluetooth enabled, taking power from the phone itself. As it comes with Bluetooth feature it can be used as a remote control with a button provided on the stylus. Long press on button can open up camera, two taps will switch between the front and back camera and one other tap can click photo. This stylus get charged in one minute when plugged to the phone and can last long for an hour. This is a really good feature provided in the stylus this time.
 
 
This time Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with a bigger battery that is 4000 mah. So the battery will last for a longer time as phone is powered by processor based on 10nm architecture which is really power efficient. Also there is support of fast charging as well as wireless charging and it comes with fast charger bundled as well. Also there is one more better thing as well that is the base variant of the phone comes with 128GB internal and 6GB RAM while the top version comes with 512GB internal and 8GB RAM. Also there is a dedicated slot for microSD card which supports SD card upto 512GB. So it means you can have around 1TB of storage in your phone. 
 
 
Also the phone doesn't skip on any sensor. It has ambient light, heart rate, fingerprint, accelerometer, compass, gyro, proximity, barometer, spO2 and barometer. The phone can be unlocked by fingerprint at back of the phone, iris scanning and face recognition. Face recognition is really fast and accurate and can also be used in dark as well. There is also support of Samsung Dex this time in which phone can be used as CPU for the computer, just we have to connect our phone to Samsung Dex and we should have a monitor, keyboard and mouse attached. This is a really good feature of the Samsung flagship devices although performance is not as good as a true computer but still it is good for basic computing.  

This device also packs a new notebook class water carbon cooling system. This will help the device to keep the temperature of the device down and maintain it's performance to peak level. The phone comes in four colors metallic copper, lavender purple, ocean blue, midnight black.
 
 
Now it's time to see whether this phone is worth buying or not. First of all there is not much innovation in design of the phone. It comes with more or less same design as that of last year. There is an upgrade in the processor of the phone which is a good thing. Now camera has variable aperture size for different lighting conditions. It can also record super slomo videos. Stylus is also having Bluetooth functionality this year. 

But many of the Samsung flagship owners have complained about the previous flagship phones going slow after 3-4 months of it's usage resulting in lags, frame drops and delays in apps opening. But now you will say that it is equipped with top notch hardware so how can this be possible. Yeah it is equipped with top notch hardware but problem is with operating system. The company is not able to do proper optimization between the software and hardware. This problem is also noticed by many of the renowned reviewers as well. So we can't say anything about Note 9 at this point but till now it's performance is top notch.
 
 
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is priced at $1000 for 128GB model and $1250 for 512GB model. In India it starts at 67900 INR for lower version and 84900 INR for higher version. So should you buy this phone? It totally depends upon you. It comes with a marvelous design, fast processor, good camera and a large 4000 mah battery. That stylus adds up a lot to your choice. But many other flagships like Google Pixel 3 and Apple iPhone are going to launch in next few months. So I think you should wait for other smartphones to be launched and then decide. And if you already own a Samsung Note 8, you shouldn't even think of upgrading to Note 9 because you will not notice much change.

 Honor Play has a very well build design. It has a metallic back. The frame is also made up of metal. It also comes with that trending notch design on front. The screen size is 6.3 inch. This is an IPS LCD type display with full HD+ resolution. This has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 with 1080*2340 pixels resolution. The fingerprint sensor is at the back. The notch on it's front houses front camera, ear piece and sensors. The design of this phone is very good.

Performance


This is the strongest aspect of Honor Play. Honor Play is powered by Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset which also powers Huawei P20 and P20 pro which are also flagship phones. So this is really strong chipset which has performance more or less same as Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. And Qualcomm snapdragon 845 powers most of the flagship phones of this year. Hisilicon Kirin 970 is based on octa core processor with four cortex A-73 cores cloaked at 2.4GHz each and other four cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.8GHz each. For better graphics it is powered by Mali-G72 MP2 GPU. So gaming and other graphic intensive tasks will also run fine. Also Honor Play is having GPU turbo technology known as revolutionary graphic processing acceleration technology. With this honor have achieved a key technological breakthrough of improving graphics processing efficiency by 60% while reducing the SOC energy consumption by 30%. It also improves the gaming performance on the device. Till now only two games are compatible with this feature among which one is PUBG. But in future more games will be compatible with this as it really enhances the gaming performance.

Camera


Huawei Honor Play is equipped with dual camera setup at back which includes 16MP,f/2.2 + 2MP,f/2.4 shooter. Here 2MP lens is just for depth sensing. In camera we get a full fledged manual mode. It also has portrait mode for good background blur shots. This camera can capture videos upto 2160p @30fps. But we don't know about the stabilization. This camera is powered by NPU, Kirin's AI core. There is a  shooter on front for selfies and here also portrait mode is given. This lens has an aperture size of f/2.0 and a pixel size of 2.0µm. Also it can capture 3D portrait lightening shots like iPhone X. This camera can capture videos upto 1080p @30fps.

Battery

Honor Play is having a 3750 mah battery which is a quite a decent amount. It is also having fast charging of 18W. Also it is bundled with a fast charger within the box. The processor used on this is built on 12nm architecture so it will be very power efficient as well. For charging it is having a USB Type-C port.

Others


Honor Play comes in two memory configurations that are 4GB,64GB and 6GB, 64GB. You can also increase it's memory by microSD as it has a hybrid SIM slot. On software part it comes out of the box with EMUI 8.1 which is based on Android 8.1. The phone comes in three colors that are Midnight Black, Navy Blue and Violet. The 4GB RAM model is just priced at 20000 INR and 6GB RAM model at 24000 INR which translates to $290 and $349 respectively. It also has 3.5 mm jack which many of the companies are skipping these days.

Conclusion


Huawei Honor Play is must for grab phone at this price. It is having a Kirin 970 chipset which has performance same as Qualcomm snapdragon 845 chipset. At this price this is the cheapest phone to have so much performance. Also the camera seems to be quite decent on this. Xiaomi has also launched Mi A2 at 17500 INR. But Honor Play is far value for money than Mi A2. It doesn't mean Mi A2 is not decent. So if you are in very tight on budget at 17-18k, then only go for Mi A2 but if you can spend 2-3k more you should definitely go for Honor Play. But keep in mind Mi A2 doesn't have a 3.5mm jack and also has a 3000 mah battery.

Blackberry launched two new phones you shouldn't buy

 Blackberry along with it's Indian manufacturing partner Optiemus has unveiled two new smartphones few days back that are Blackberry Evolve and Blackberry Evolve X. Both the phones have a lot of things in common like design, display, battery and many other features. Both these phones don't come with any keyboard for which Blackberry is really famous for. They are just touchscreen phones. With these phones blackberry is trying to do something different. So let's see which features Blackberry has offered in this smartphones.

 
 Blackberry Evolve and Blackberry Evolve X have exactly same design. They have same dimensions and weight as well. The phones come with a screen size of 5.99" which is an IPS LCD screen. This display has small bezels and has an aspect ratio of 18:9. The resolution of this display is 1080*2160 pixels. But there is no notch on the display of the phone. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on front. Back of both the phones is textured. So the grip of the phone seems to be really good. It will be really solid to hold in hand.

 
 The main difference between two phones is their chipset. Blackberry Evolve X is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 660 chipset which is an octa core chipset with four kryo cloaked at 2.2GHz each and other four kryo 260 cores cloaked at 1.8 GHz each. For better graphics there is Adreno 512 GPU. This chip is really good but at this price blackberry should go with some better chip. But the performance of the smartphone will still be really good.
 
Blackberry Evolve is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 450 chipset which is an octa core chip with eight cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.8GHz each. Here the case is also same as that with Evolve X. For graphics there is Adreno 506 GPU. Blackberry comes with 64GB,4GB memory configuration while Blackberry Evolve X comes with 64GB/6GB.

 
 Camera specs of these two phones is also different. Blackberry Evolve X comes with dual camera setup with 12MP,f/1.8+13MP,f/2.6 shooter. Here the secondary lens is telephoto lens. This camera can record videos upto 1080p @30fps. The front camera on this is a 16MP shooter.  
 
Blackberry Evolve also has dual camera setup but this has different setup. It has 13MP,1/3.1"+13MP,1/3.1" shooter. Here the setup is RGB + monochrome. Here also the front camera is same 16MP,f/2.0 shooter.


Both the phones comes with fingerprint scanner and also there is face unlocking feature on both of these. Both of them come with 4000 mah battery and they have USB Type-C port to power it up. There is support for Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. Blackberry Evolve X also has wireless charging. The phones are powered by Android 8.1 and it comes with company's in house DTEK security platform. Blackberry Evolve is priced at around 24990 INR and Evolve X is priced at 34990 INR which translates to around $365 and $510 respectively. Blackberry Evolve will be available in late August and Evolve X will be available from mid September.

 Huawei has launched it's first phone in the market with Kirin 710 chipset that is Huawei Nova 3i. It is a lighter version of Huawei Nova 3 which is also a lighter version of Huawei P20 lite. Huawei Nova 3i comes with some good specifications at a good price. Earlier in this price segment there weren't any phones to be considered as money for value phone but with Huawei Nova 3i it seems that things are going to be changed. Also Xioami Mi A2 is going to launch in this price segment which is powered by Snapdragon 660. So Mi A2 will give a tough fight to this phone.  Huawei Nova 3i is powered by the new Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset which is based on octa core processor with four powerful cortex A-73 cores cloaked at 2.2GHz each and other four cortex A-53 cores cloaked at 1.7GHz each. This new chipset by Huawei is built on 12nm architecture. This is a fast chip as it has four powerful cores. The performance of this chip will be really good. The performance of this chip will be as good as Snapdragon 660 that's what reports say. For better graphics it is powered by Mali G54-MP4 GPU. So the phone will handle gaming and other graphic intensive tasks without any issues. As it is built on 12nm architecture so the battery life of the phone will also be really good. Overall the performance of the device will be really good. It will handle all the tasks without any issues.
 
Design

 
 The design of Huawei Nova 3i is also very well built. It comes with the most common design these days that is notch display. This notch houses an earpiece, dual camera, and other sensors. On front there is a 6.3" IPS LCD screen which is a full HD+ screen. The bezels are really thin on this phone and the aspect ratio of the display is 19.5:9. The resolution of this display is 1080*2340 pixels. At the back it has a glass build which looks really premium. It's back has dual tone colors which looks really good. The back glass is a 2.5D glass. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back which is quite responsive. This phone looks more or less same as Nova 3 in design. The build of this phone is really good, it looks not less than any flagship. Huawei must be awarded full marks in it's design.
 
Camera

 
 Huawei Nova 3i comes with dual rear camera setup at the back. It is a 16MP,f/2.2+2MP,depth shooter. Huawei has given AI support to this camera. So the performance of this camera will be great. The camera can record videos upto 1080p @30fps. Huawei has provided a great selfie camera to the front. It is a dual setup of 24MP+2MP. This is same as that on Huawei Nova 3. It also has portrait mode and studio lightening modes as well. There is also HDR support in the front camera. The camera of this phone seems to be really interesting but the real picture will only come out after the usage of phone.
 
Other features
 
Huawei Nova 3i comes out of the box with EMUI 8.2 built on Android 8.1 Oreo. The battery on this phone is of 3340mah. The phone comes in three colors Black, pearl white and iris purple. There is no fast charging on this phone, it comes with normal 10W charging. It comes in two memory specifications 6GB,64GB and 4GB/128GB. There is also microSD slot for increasing the storage upto 256GB but this is a hybrid slot.
 
Final verdict

 
 Huawei Nova 3i seems to be really interesting device by seeing it's price of $300 or 21000 INR. It has a perfect design, good processor, notch display and a good camera. But there is no fast charging and also it is not having USB Type-C port. But it's chipset is built on newer 12nm architecture so the power consumption will be lower. So at this price the phone seems to be a really good deal. Earlier at this price there were not many good phones to purchase but it seems that with this phone the story is going to be changed.
